Who would buy this bullcrap? They probably had a gun on her head to script this. The fact that this response from her is coming this late since the controversy started should be enough to know that she was not permitted any access to social media outlets.

Re: General Tennis Discussions
Well, in this case, the government should not pay for the testing. Players should pay if the organizers do not pay. Maybe the organizers should have paid but I do not know their finances given lower gate sales, etc. in these covid days. The doctor/medical person should have been protected. This is again Indian casual "chalta hai" attitude.

The government or the organizers don’t pay for Covid tests in any of the other countries that I am aware of. The tournament hotels in some of the countries are really bad even in the US and Canada. Super 8 and another dingy model were the official hotels in Canada recently and they were pathetic. We stayed one night and then shifted to another hotel. The cost to take a Covid test in Canada is $150/person!!
That said, Indians can definitely do a better job. It depends on the attitude of the people running that particular tournament. Some are good, some are terrible.

Re: General Tennis Discussions
Just saw some news in the Malayalam newspapers that the Kerala Government has allotted 40 lakhs for an international tennis tournament that will "cost approximately 82.77 lakhs" (which is not really that "approximate" but is an indication that it is a $100K event )
It will be called the "Chief Minister's Cup International Tennis Tournament" and will be at the Trivandrum Club, as per the reports.
One article complaining about the state (in considerable debt) spending that much on a tournament says it will be in the "coming January-February" and another article in the same newspapers (Mathrubhumi) says that it will be in "early 2025". Not sure what is correct.
I will believe it when it hits the ATP or ITF calendar, but it is good news, if it comes true.

Re: General Tennis Discussions
There were 3 challengers this February in Chennai, Pune and Chennai. So, maybe 1 of those challengers is shifted to Trivandrum next year. That is good news from the point of view of spreading out the venues for tennis tournaments. Even better if that is an additional tournament.

Re: General Tennis Discussions
And not to forget the number of ITFs being held this year.
Karnataka leading the way with 4 Men's events (M25 in Mysuru, Dharwad and Kalaburagi and one M15 in Davangere) and 3 Women's events (W25 Bengaluru twice and W40 Bengaluru - all of them at different locations)

Re: General Tennis Discussions
I wonder they are referring to the total cost of holding a tournament which should be considerably more than just the prize money. They may have to pay the venue, ITF supervisor, doctor or physio, transportation etc.jayakris wrote: ↑Thu Oct 19, 2023 6:20 am Just saw some news in the Malayalam newspapers that the Kerala Government has allotted 40 lakhs for an international tennis tournament that will "cost approximately 82.77 lakhs" (which is not really that "approximate" but is an indication that it is a $100K event )
