GOLF MAJORS/ WGC Events
Shiv Kapur qualifies for the US Open Golf, the second major of the year.
He finished 5th in the US Open Championship International Sectional Qualifier, played in England for the European Tour players.
Very credible achievement by Shiv in a tough field.
Unfortunately, Jeev couldn't qualify.

Re: GOLF MAJORS
An incredible T23 finish with a score of +6 for Shiv, best ever for an Indian in Majors...
He could have done more without the triple bogey on the 2nd day and a slew of bogies on the back 9 on the 3rd day...
If not for those, he could have finished in the top-15 and qualified for next year's event...
Missed it by 2 strokes...

Re: GOLF MAJORS
Not true, Jeev finished T9 at the Masters once. Best ever finish by an Indian at the US Open though.

Re: GOLF MAJORS
Best finish by Indian at any Majors was Jeev Milkha Singh’s tied ninth finish at PGA Championships in 2008.

Re: GOLF MAJORS
Good to see Shiv Kapur finishing reasonably well at the US Open. He is still young -- having become a credible pro at a much younger age than Jeev and Arjun. Hopefully, this will give him many more years of major play -- and many more opportunities to pull off our first major title.

Anirban Lahiri secures Open Championship spot
India`s Anirban Lahiri is one of 10 golfers who has earned a berth at British Open as the highest ranked non-exempt players in the Official World Golf Ranking.
This will be his second appearance at the British Open.
Jeev Milkha Singh, Gaganjeet Bhullar & Shiv Kapur still have the chance to qualify, if they finish as top three non-exempt players in this week's European Tour event of Open de France and next week's Scottish open.

Re: GOLF MAJORS
Great to see Lahiri going to Open Championship once again. He came T31 in his first Open Championship, which was a great performance for a young player playing in his first Major. Let's hope he does even better this time. Hoping for a top 20 would be a dream result. Although very demanding, it is an achievable target. But he being a player, must have a mindset to aim for a top 10 result.

Re: GOLF MAJORS
Poor start by Anirban Lahiri at the Open Championship, he is currently 3 over par after Round 1.

Re: GOLF MAJORS
Yes, sad to see the poor start from Lahiri. He is T103 after Day 1, with Phil Mickelson (the holder) 2-over par at T82. Rory McIlroy leads at 6-under and Tiger Woods is T10 at 3-under.

Yes PKB, and you were quite pleased by Shiv Kapur's performance.prashanthm wrote:US Open is already done for the year and he did well to finish T23...PKBasu wrote:Shiv Kapur will be the only Indian at the US Open this year!

Re: GOLF MAJORS
This is what happens to a non-fan golf dilettante with only occasional interest in what the Indians are doing...
We used to have such an active golf forum at one time (in Vijay Singh's heyday), but things have gone very quiet here in recent times!

Re: GOLF MAJORS
We do have a lone Indian at the last Golf Major of 2014 - PGA Championship starting Thursday Aug 7.
Anirban Lahiri is in the field and let's hope he gives us something to cheer.
