Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
Belgium pulls 1 back thru a PC and we lead 2-1 with 20 mins to go.
2-1 after Q3. Tense last 15 mins coming up.

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
Another PC goal by Belgium makes it 2-2.
And now PC for us. Rupinder scores to make it 3-2 with 13 mins to go.
Damn, it was a great pass by Harmanpreet but Mandeep tries to go for glory instead of passing to Akashdeep.
Still, 3-2 with 8 mins to go.
Damn, Belgium score to make it 3-3. 6 mins to go.
Phew, 2 PC saved by us. Still 3-3 with 2 mins left.
And it ends 3-3 in normal time. Now, the shoot out.

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
Damn...wish we could have held on, but soon as I saw 10+ mins left it was guaranteed we would concede. Have to be thankful we didn't lose 4-3.
We are in the semis....wow.

Belgium out but twice India could not hold on to a 2-0 lead.

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
It does not matter, Saniapower as long as we won in the end. I think this was the best match played by us in this tournament and one of the better matches played by us in recent times. To finish on level terms in normal time against possibly the best team in the world is good performance.

Wow....this format is a boon for an unpredictable team like us
Languishing at the last throughout the tournament and then toppling the best team(on the reviews of the forummers here) is the best thing we can hope for

Whoa... Okay, maybe we won't fire the no-resume coach just yet, then. This was unexpected after the last two matches. We seem to be developing a knack for doing this. We did this the last time too, right? Belgium looked unbeatable in their first three matches.

Australia beat Spain to reach the semi too. Maybe our pool was stronger than we thought...

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
But, Belgium was really good at group stage and have been top notch in last few years. I think today they played below their usual level and we played much above our usual level.
Yes, we did the same in 2015. Finished at the bottom at group stage but went on to win the QF and bronze medal match.
This format does not reward consistency but favours an inconsistent team like us.

Wow, wow, wow ... So we surprised everyone with our unpredictable performance to beat Olympics silver medalist Belgium in the sudden death shootout ... This is our only second ever semi-final of the Hockey World League Final.

Sorry, it is not forummers but forumites. Like smite, termite, house-dust-mites or vegemites. Because we are similarly pesky and/or unpalatable.
Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
This is the kind of stuff that happens repeatedly. So many times in the past, someone -usually Sardar or occasionally Manpreet- would create an opening with a brilliant pass or dribble and our forwards mess it up.Damn, it was a great pass by Harmanpreet but Mandeep tries to go for glory instead of passing to Akashdeep.
This win is a massive bonus as Belgium looked in fantastic form in the pool stages and have been consistently top 3/4 since about 2014. We will play the winner of the Argentina/England QF.
We have a chance of making the final, but only if we play at our best level. If we drop the intensity and back off like the last 2 pool games, Argentina or England defeat us. Our inconsistency is really frustrating. Inexplicably a great match is followed by some amateurish garbage where almost the entire team makes basic errors through out the match. By this I mean a simple 10 m pass or a trap on the open stick side is beyond our players. Ball watching, poor marking and lack of pressure on the opposition should happen in all matches not 1 in 3!
