So, Pranjala has won a title at this level (25K) earlier than Karman and Ankita did. Pranjala won this title now at 19 year and a half while Karman had won this June when she had just completed her 20 years while Ankita won it when she well past 21.

I mentioned this in terms of 25K tournament win. But, in terms of ranking progression, Karman is a bit ahead. She broke into top 300 last November which is at 19 years and 5 months. Pranjala is 19 years and 7 months old now.

Hopefully, Pranjala will break into top 300 by end of this year.

Ankita broke into top 300 close to her 21st birthday. Rutuja can try to follow her trajectory although she is a bit behind at 22 years and 6 months now. Hope she also breaks into top 300. Her progression is a bit late as she spent 4 years on US college circuit.

These are her results this week -

At $25K ITF Women, Lagos, Nigeria

[R1] (6) Pranjala Yadlapalli (IND,396) d. Patience Onebamhoin (NGR,UNR) 61 60
[R2] (6) Pranjala Yadlapalli (IND,396) d. Riya Bhatia (IND,717) 64 64
[QF] (6) Pranjala Yadlapalli (IND,396) d.(2) Deniz Khazaniuk (ISR,206) 76(3) 64
[SF] (6) Pranjala Yadlapalli (IND,396) d. (4) Victoria Bosio (ARG,341) 62 50 retd.
[F] (6) Pranjala Yadlapalli (IND,396) d. (1) Conny Perin (SUI,144) 26 75 60

The wins in the QF and final were real quality wins.

So, Pranjala has won a title at this level (25K) earlier than Karman and Ankita did. Pranjala won this title now at 19 year and a half while Karman had won this June when she had just completed her 20 years while Ankita won it when she well past 21.

50 points from this week will take her to new career high ranking of around 340.
Fantastic achievement, beating the first, second and fourth seeds on the way to the title, and each of them by comfortable margins. A bagel in the final set of the final against world #144 surely takes the cake.
Pranjala has taken a very substantial forward step in her career, and we have a very impressive line-up of young women tennis stars now.

Sameer, thanks for the link to the highlights. Pranjala basically wore down Conny! It was nice to see Pranjala show solid ground strokes combined with good anticipation.

Back to back 25K titles for Pranjala in Nigeria.

These are her results this week -

[R1] (6) Pranjala YADLAPALLI (IND,449) d. Aanu AYEGBUSI (NGR, NR) 60 60
[R2] (6) Pranjala YADLAPALLI (IND, 449) d [Q] Jasmine JEBAWY (GER, UNR) 30 retd.
[QF] (6) Pranjala Yadlapalli (IND,449) d. (2) Deniz Khazaniuk (ISR,210) 63 64
[SF] (6) Pranjala Yadlapalli (IND,449) d. (8) Julia TERZIYSKA (BUL,421) 62 63
[F] (6) Pranjala Yadlapalli (IND,449) d. (1) Conny Perrin (SUI,142) 61 76(1)

Pranjala is the first Indian to win back to back 25K titles since Sania since 2004.

And this title will take her to around #280 when these points go into WTA rankings as on 22nd October. I think after a long time we will have 3 players in top 300 in WTA rankings.

Excellent from Pranjala.

This will move her to #28 amongst teenagers and 3rd amongst Asians. Much like Kamran, that's top 150 potential.

Fabulous fortnight for Pranjala, who has clearly taken a massive step forward in her career. I guess she has the allround game to have a long career on the WTA tour.

Yes, I just mentioned last week that she is a bit behind Karman in terms of ranking progression in same age group and within a week she is right close to Karman now.

Pranjala has been training at Impact tennis academy in Thailand for last 2-3 months. Yuki has been training there for last couple of years. The work there seems to have paid dividends in short time.

This is what they posted on their FB page -
One of the hardest things to do on tour is back up a good result the following week. So big respect to Pranjala Yadlapalli for winning her second us$25k title in as many weeks by winning the Ladies singles title in Lagos. Another career high ranking and just a small reward for doing the right things with her new mindset and commitment. But still have a long way to go.
PJ lost her support by moving to Thailand and it was a huge risk and commitment by her family. So to get some rewards so quickly after the move sure feels good and shows the beginning of what she is capable of.
In 3 tournaments since starting to train PJ went semi, win, win. Not bad at all

Also must mention Riya Bhatia who recently started training with us and reached her first ever $25k semi final and is also going it alone without any support
See ya next week girls and back to work. The year isn’t over yet
Shoutout to the coaching team Skinny, Fiat and Carlos.

PJ, Riya and Yuki getting nothing, doing something.

As expected, Pranjala breaks into top 300 and is ranked at a career high of 280 now.

This is another article on her-

Fitter, more aggressive: New coach Stephen Koon helps Pranjala Yadlapalli win biggest career title

Hope she makes some noise at Mumbai WTA next week.

Pranjala was playing with injury for the last 2 weeks from overtraining it seems as per this article-

Pranjala taking key lessons from fruitful season

Now she has ended her season.

Again a bit unfortunate that 2 our top 3 are not playing the Indian 25K series tournaments while they have been playing same level tournaments all thru the year outside India.

Pranjala is finally back on the circuit after 4 months break due to injury.

At $25K ITF Women,Kashiwa,Japan

[R1] Pranjala YADLAPALLI (IND,290) vs. (WC) Misaki MATSUDA (JPN,ITF-362)

Reasonable match on comeback but let see how prepared Pranjala is.

[R1] Pranjala YADLAPALLI (IND,290) d (WC) Misaki MATSUDA (JPN,ITF-362) 7-5 6-0

Saw the last few games online. No ball boys/girls and so the players have to fetch the balls. Another men's ITF 15K match was on the next court. It had the feel of playing in a public court in the US. Pranjala is not yet match ready and was playing a controlled game. The natural power from her strokes were missing (could have been deliberate), her first serve percentage was low as well. The Japanese girl is a fighter and the 6-0 scoreline is deceptive. She saved 5 match points in the last game and Pranjala got a very good workout. I am sure she can take a lot of heart from this win. She will need to play better in R2.

[R2] Pranjala YADLAPALLI (IND,290) vs (3) Ayano SHIMIZU (JPN, 199)

Pranjala lost in 3 sets.

At $25K ITF Women,Kashiwa,Japan

[R2] Pranjala YADLAPALLI (IND,290) l. (3) Ayano SHIMIZU (JPN,199) 75 26 36

After winning the close first set, Pranjala lost the second set tamely. But, she seemed to have made a comeback in third set and was leading 3-2 and at 40-15 had 2 breakpoint chances to make it 4-2. She could not break there and from thereon lost the next 3 games too.

Still, a pretty good effort by her in the first tournament after a long injury break. If she plays like this, soon she should be back at her late last year level which was quite good.

If Pranjala had won this R2 match, she would have had a clear path to the SF as the top seed got knocked out. On the whole, this was a good outing from her on her return from the injury break.
