Arjun hit a backhand to net to hand the 2-1 lead to Jeevan and could never recover from that. He could not hold his serve after that and Jeevan easily pocketed the match,Rs 1.5 lakh as prize money and a wild card to the main draw of the next month's ATP Challenger event here.
Hmm did they mention this for WTA Challenger in Delhi next month  .If yes then Prerna is really lucky to grab some points and money :p
Prerna owed a thank you to Sania Mirza, who gave away the winners trophies, since it was on her suggestion that the organisers increased the prize money for women's winner from Rs 1 lakh to 1.5 lakh, at par with men's prize money and runners-up now get Rs 1 lakh instead of Rs 65,000.
Good job by Sania :D

Congrats to first time winners, Jeevan and Prerna ...

Yuki's post ... :D
Another national champion in the family. My cousin Prerna won the women's event. She was down 6-2, 5-2 to turn it around. Now that's what you call a comeback :)
So 3 women's champion and 1 men's ;)

Jeevan & Prerna were the favourites going into this tournament - Jeevan being the only one among top 10 Indians present here & Prerna being in the best form among those playing. They fully justified this with Jeevan winning without dropping a set in the tournament & Prerna making a great comeback in the final.

Now, both need to get back to pro tour & try to build on this confidence to reach at least top 300 in the pro rankings to start with.

These are junior final results -

Boys singles -

[F] (1) Rishab Aggarwal bt. (3) Karan Salwan 61 62

Girls singles -

[F] Pranjala Yadlapalli bt. (7) Tarranum Handa 67(8) 60 75

Rishab seems a dominant player in juniors now going by the way he won all his matches this week with ease. But, more striking is the superb run to the title by 13 year old Pranjala Yadlapalli coming back from a set down in the final. I think a 13 year old winning an under 18 national title is something rare & we seem to have found the next big thing in girls tennis.

Pranjala is clearly an exciting talent that we need to start nurturing carefully. Arjun Khade's run to the men's final was also very nice to see.

These are the results of the finals of under 14 & under 16 events -

Boys: Under-16: Garvit Batra bt Shashank Nautiyal 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.
Under-14: B. R. Nikshep bt Sanil Jagtiani 6-1, 6-0.
Girls: Under-16: Snehadevi Reddy bt Pranjala Yadlapalli 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Under-14: Vanshika Sawhney bt Mihika Yadav 6-4, 7-6(4).

Report from Hindu -

Batra fights off Nautiyal for title

It seems Pranjala lost to the top seed Sneha Reddy after leading 6-2, 3-1. Must have got a bit tired going to the finals second week in a row. Sheha herself is a talented player too .
Vanshika was also part of girls under 14 team with Pranjala which particiated in world team finals in Europe early this year & Garvit Batra ( brother of Ratika Batra ) is another one to keep an eye on.

Shouldn't the players' association be doing something for advancement of Indian tennis here? Where have they disappeared? Do they have a website? I'd like to know the status of their results vis-a-vis the objectives they wanted to meet.

It is completely ridiculous to call this travesty of a tournament the National tennis championship -- with about 15 of India's top players missing. Playing it now makes no sense either: why don't they just stick to December, when a lot of the pros can also turn up?

Even if it is kept in December, I am not sure how many top players will turn up for the nationals. Considering that it does not offer any ATP/WTA rankings points , it is not worth wasting a week for top players here . They have to increase the prize money a long way to attract top players or wild cards to Chennai open or something if that helps. But, with current relationships between AITA & TNTA that also looks out of question.

OK. I found the ITPA website. It hasn't been updated for a while.
