Wow, where has Siddharth Rawat come from all of a sudden? He thrashes KU Singh 6-4 6-1 to set up a clash with Vishnu in the finals. Karman Kaur Thandi made it to the finals defeating Vaishnavi Paddi Reddy and will face Prerna Bhambri in the finas.

Excellent run so far by Siddharth Rawat although KU may have been rusty playing his first tournament after a 6 month layoff. Ronit was just short upseting Vishnu too. Makes for an interesting final.

Karman Kaur again shows her great promise by reaching both womens and girls final.

Boys final line up is surprising with both unheard names making the finals.

Karman vs Prerna live on DD. Karman 4-3 up. And then they decide to switch to some TT Tournament. Bizarre.

Karman seems to have a huge forehand. She lacks a good backhand and is a very slow mover on the court.

DD sports switching between Tennis and Table Tennis.

Karman won the first set 6-4 but just lost the second set 4-6. Weak service game by Karman under pressure where she served 2 double faults.

Yes, Karman has a huge forehand , reminds one of Sania Mirza of young days. Also very good serve, she has hit aces every now and then. She is beginning to hit some decent backhands too now which I did not see earlier in the match.

Karman could not continue her good work in the third set and Prerna won her third consecutive national title.

[F] Prerana Bhambri d. Karman Kaur Thandi 46 64 63

Still, Karman is only 16 and looks an exciting prospect perhaps one of our best in last few years.

Mens final tied at 1 set all with Vishnu winning the first set 6-2 and Siddharth winning the second set 6-4. Vishnu was up 3-0 in the second set but Siddharth cleverly changed the pace of the game, slowed it down and Vishnu made a lot of errors to lose the set.

Good to Mahesh Bhupathi chatting up with Anil Khanna in stands.

Yes, but Vishnu proved too strong in the end.

[F] Vishnu Vardhan d. Siddharth Rawat 62 46 63

His first national hard court title.

These are the results of the under 18 finals -

Under-18 boys: Vidit Vaghela bt Dalwinder Singh 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

Under-18 girls: Karman Kaur Thandi bt Simran Kaur Sethi 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(5).

So, great to see that Karman still had the fitness and the motivation to play such a long match to win the girls title. Vidit Vaghela seems new name to watch out for.

These are the results of finals if sub-junior ( under 16, under 14) national finals which were concluded today.

U-16 boys singles: 2-Vashisht Cheruku bt 1-B.R. Nikshep 2-6, 6-2, 7-5

U-16 girls singles: 2-Zeel Desai bt Ramya Natrajan 7-5, 6-0

U-14 boys singles: Digvijay Pratap Singh bt 1-Siddhant Banthia 6-3, 6-0

U-14 girls singles: Sathwika Sama bt Sabhyata Nihalani 6-2, 6-2

As alerted by Ram, we will keep an eye on 15 year old Vasisht Vinod Cheruku from Karnataka who beat his 1 year older statemate to clinch the under 16 title here. As per report in Hindu, he has a big serve and big forehand .

Siddhanth Banthia who won the road to winbledon title in UK last year lost in the under 14 final here.

I didn't know where to post this, so posting it here.

The Bengal Men's State Ranking Grasscourt Tournament started here in Kolkata yesterday. I played the Qualifying and qualified for the main draw. I play Nitin Kumar Sinha, the ITF Juniors WR 643, tomorrow in the first round of the main draw :D
