[Q1] (1) Ankita Raina (IND,198) vs. Ilona-Georgiana Ghioroaie (ROM,366)
The draw now shows Ghioroaie with a BYE in the Q1. Did Ankita make the main draw?

Ankita gets a top 100 player in first round.

At Transylvania Open WTA 250, CLUJ-NAPOCA, ROMANIA (Hard)

[R1] Ankita Raina (IND,198) vs. (8) Jodie Burrage (GBR,91)

Ankita lost a very close one in third set tie break against Burrage in July in Poland WTA in July. Hope she turns around that result here.

She once peaked at ranking of 250-300. Now she has peaked at 150-200. She may challenge someone ranked 125. Above that is clearly not her forte.

Wow. Broken every service game.
The opponent lost her own serve twice which gave her 2 games.

I suspect that she may have some physical issue bothering her. She would not lose that cheaply, otherwise. The opponent could have played at a very high level but Ankita is experienced enough to find some chinks in the armor and put up a fight usually.

I don’t agree with that although that seems to be the initial reaction on this forum when an Indian player loses. I watched the first set and Jodie was inspired to put on a good show in front of her BJK cup captain Anne Keothavong watching from the sidelines. Jodie played well, and Ankita succumbed.

The Indo-German pair was serving for the match at 9-6. :damn:

Ankita will be in Australia next couple weeks playing in 2 W60 tournaments. Next week, she will be one of the top-4 seeds in the singles draw at W60 Brisbane. Prarthana is also in the entry list partnering Jessy Rompies. :goodluck:

^^^ Yes, should be ok. Only 18 points to defend ( next week) till the AO qualies cut off date i.e 18th December. So, at worse she will fall to 210 -215 which is quite safe for AO qualies. She has 36 points to defend from 2 Indian W25's in December last year but they fall off after the cut off date. And hopefully, she will earn some points in next 4 weeks too.

Dont know if she is carrying some injury or something but has played only 2 tournaments post Asian games and lost badly in first round of both.

Pranjala, who is top-seeded in doubles, will play her QF (the last one remaining to be played) on Friday.
