Re: Ankita Raina thread
She had told me she was going to play in Thailand for a fortnight after the two weeks in Singapore. (I spoke to her after she won the Singapore title in the first week there). Surprised that her plans got so derailed...

Re: Ankita Raina thread
She did play in Thailand for WTA qualies and then Dubai WTA qualies after Singapore. Now back to ITF circuit.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Good to see her pull through in three sets. It is always tough to get back match fitness after a break. Hope she picks up her game in R2.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Bad loss for Ankita in second round at Shenzhen.
At $60K ITF Women, Shenzhen
[R2] (5) Ankita Raina (IND,166) l. Hiroko Kuwata (JPN,266) 67(2) 26
She was leading 5-3 in the first set serving for the match and also had a set point at 5-4, 40-30 on Kuwata serve. From thereon, it went all downhill. Opportunity lost to gather big points here as second seed in her quarter had got beaten.
Hope there is no injury issue. She is slated to play couple of $25K's in Japan in next 2 weeks and has her Gwalior title points to defend from last year.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
That’s a nice win, but Ankita needs to win the title this week to make it count!

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Yes, bad loss for second consecutive week. With her Gwalior ITF title points coming off, Ankita will fall off to somewhere between 190-195 in next week's rankings. Needs to start going deep in these ITf tournaments to stay inside top 200 .

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita lost in second round.
At $25K ITF Women,Kofu,Japan
[R2] (3) Ankita RAINA (IND,168) l. Lara SALDEN (BEL,629) 64 46 26
So, quite disappointing 3 weeks stint for Ankita in China and Japan where she lost in second round in all 3 weeks. She is most likely to drop out just outside top 200 now in the rankings as on 8th April, 2019.
Looks like she will be back in $60K in Istanbul,Turkey in 2 weeks time. Does not have too many points to defend in April. So, a good performance in couple of tournaments can take her up the rankings.
