Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita lost in the final in a close match.
At W100 Versmold, Germany (Clay)
[F] (2) Ankita Raina (IND) / Rosalie Van Der Hock (NED) l. (1) Anna Danilina (KAZ) / Arianne Hartono (NED) 76(4) 64 6-10
Anna Danilia was a finalist at Australian open this year. So, not a bad performance by Ankita and her partner.
I forgot to mention earlier that Prarthana Thombre also played in this tournament with British partner and reached the SF before losing to top seeds and eventual champions in straight sets.
Ankita moves up to around 134 in doubles rankings now and Prarthana moves up back to India #2 ahead of Ankita around #233.

And Ankita wins another doubles title.

[F] (2) Ankita Raina (IND) / Momoko Kobori (JPN) d. (1) Ji-Hee Cho (KOR) / Na-Lae Han (KOR) 62 36 8-10
Her 4th doubles title this year with different partner. She has not won a singles title or reached a single final since February 2020. She is 29 now, perhaps shift to doubles happening soon for Ankita.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
And Ankita plays singles qualifying in Korea open tomorrow and guess what she draws the only other Indian who also made it there, Riya Bhatia. Maybe bad or good that at least 1 Indian player will be in final qualifying round.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
The winner of that match in Seoul will play 3-Valentini Grammatikopolou (GRE, 160) in the final round of qualifying (or Nadiia Kichenok, now a doubles specialist ranked 722 in singles).
We should probably start a tournament page, since Ankita will probably be in the doubles too, as will NRI Astra Sharma.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
^^ But since one of the Indians will get knocked out today, probably no need to start a thread.
Actually I will be in Korea on Tuesday/Wednesday and can try to go to a match (depending on the time schedule). Not sure if anybody will be alive by then

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita started with an easy win over Riya.
At Korea Open WTA 250, Seoul
[Q1] (12) Ankita Raina (IND,325) d. Riya Bhatia (IND,476) 61 61
So, Riya goes there to play just 1 match. Quite expensive for her.
[Q2] (12) Ankita Raina (IND,325) vs. (3) Valentini Grammatikopolou (GRE,160)

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita was down 1-5 in the first set against Greek third seed but came back to win the next 5 games to go up 6-5 but got broken while serving for the set. But, she comfortably won the tie break 7-4.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita had 2 matchpoints serving at 5-3, 40-15 but she got broken for 5-4 with Valentini serving.
After couple of holds it is 6-5 for Ankita.
And it goes to another tie break.
Damn, Ankita lost the tie break 4-7. What an opportunity lost to close out the match.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Finally, some good news for us in singles. Ankita qualified for the main draw upsetting the 3rd seed Greek 7-6 6-7 6-0.
In the doubles main draw, Ankita/Peangtarn Plipuech will face Astra/Rosalie in the opening round.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Yay, Ankita! I fly out to Seoul on Monday night and will get there Tuesday morning. But have some engagements. If she is playing Tuesday, I will check if I can make it there! But this was unexpected.
