Amazing run by Sumit.
He has displayed excellent form in the past couple of months, which is arguably the best by an Indian so far this year, and what is striking about this , is he had to raise his game from the slump he was in last year

What a fabulous, fabulous win!! Martin Klizan made R3 at the French Open this year (beating Lucas Pouille in R2), so he was in excellent clay form, and this was his home Challenger. To come back so strongly from the first set, and beat the top seed in a final set tiebreaker, is a massive achievement. Congratulations to Sumit!

I did comment on the forum that it was evident that Klizan tanked that game. But, he was down 1-5 in the second set at that moment and mostly wanted to conserve his energy for the third set. In the third set, Klizan was fighting and perhaps his game may not be at his best but he never gave up and Sumit looked very determined to pull it off which he eventually did.

Like the comment on the post that Klizan mistook Nagal for Nadal and decided to just give up. :D

Nope, he is at 238.

Live ATP rankings

He moves ahead of Saketh as India #3 behind Prajnesh and RamK ( Saketh lost points for Fergana challenger SF from last year). Also US open qualies is more or less assured now. Last year cut-off was 244.

Another really good win for Sumit over an inform clay courter!

He has stumbled the last 2 times at the SF stage, so hoping that he can go further here and win the title which will take him inside the top 200.
