Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Pretty tough to get in if he is 8th on the list of alternates for the qualifying rounds...

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Well, he was 13th for Monte Carlo not too many days ago, and apparently he ended up as the first one out by the time the qualies draw was made (by when he had decided to go to the challenger 100 qualies, correctly deciding to not even wait to see if he would make it by the next day, today. he might not have made it in)PKBasu wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 7:15 am Pretty tough to get in if he is 8th on the list of alternates for the qualifying rounds...

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
^^^ All Q1 matches at Monte Carlo got done on Saturday itself. So, there was no point in waiting around on Sunday.
I am glad that he decided to straight away go and sign in for challenger qualies. I think that is what he will do for next 3 weeks where he has not entered any challenger main draw. He will wait around till last minute to see if he gets in ATP qualies, if not go and play challenger qualies.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Current form dictates he plays more challengers. And more on clay. Rest will follow. If fit!

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Nagal beats #313 Kirkin in Q1 of the Monza 100 challenger 57 76 62.
Watched parts of the 3rd set and Sumit was completely dictating play with his forehand. The way he was playing it was hard to believe that he almost lost the match in the first 2 sets.
Just from the 3rd set, he didn’t seem like he isn’t fit as he was hitting and serving as he did at this peak last year. However, given his limited game, he has to play with high intensity and edge to win even at challenger levels, and it seems to me that his success last year might have taken away his hunger or edge at least a little.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Disconcerting that our best male singles player seems to have reverted to playing like a player ranked around 300, after such a great run to the top-100 last year. All our players seem to run out of steam once they have made it into the top-100

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Nope, he made so many mistakes in the 1st 2 sets. He wasn't playing that well. He was frustrated at that time. The moment he won the 2nd set, he got his confidence that's allarjun2761 wrote: Sun Apr 06, 2025 6:23 pm Nagal beats #313 Kirkin in Q1 of the Monza 100 challenger 57 76 62.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit qualifies for main draw with a more comfortable win.
At Monza Challenger 100, Italy (Clay)
[Q2] (1) Sumit Nagal (IND,144) d. (WC) Federico Iannaccone (ITA,490) 64 62
Iaanaccone had upset former top 60 player Travalgia in Q1.
Main draw-
[R1] (Q) Sumit Nagal (IND,144) vs. Philip Misolic (AUT,195)
Misolic qualified in and reached the QF of Bucharest ATP 250 last week and has made a jump from outside 300 to inside top 200 this year. So, this is a very tough match.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Hopefully Sumit goes far in the draw as he is now down to 170 in the live rankings with 76 points falling off from last year.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
The betters have Misolic as the favorite. However, Q2 win was a much cleaner win by Sumit winning 63-39 on points, so it looks like he played a lot like he played the final set of his Q1 win. If he is focused and playing his best, he has a chance....sameerph wrote: Mon Apr 07, 2025 2:30 pm Sumit qualifies for main draw with a more comfortable win.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit retired...
[R1] (Q) Sumit Nagal (IND,144) l. Philip Misolic (AUT,195), 26 10 RET.
Sameer says he was wallking gingerly by the end of the match. Oh well
