This looks like his schedule for next 3 weeks-

March 17- Murcia Challenger 75- will be a seed
March 24- Naples Challenger 125
March 31- Marrakech ATP 125 qualies - will be a seed

The week after this is big Monte Carlo ATP masters where Sumit had his great run to the main draw last year. But, this year he does not look likely to make qualies draw there.

Hope Sumit has some success back playing on his favorite surface.
Marrakech is a 250 event, not 125. I think he is coming back to the top 100 before RG!!!

He is some 130 now. It is very steep.

Sumit is defending 289 points over the next 3 months (Until mid-June).
(These are 2/3rd of his total points).

Defending such a large portion will be challenging, and if he fails to defend even half of them, he will fall out of the Top 200.

Yes, looking at his current form I would be happy he manages to stay within 150 after all those points fall off, let alone go back to top 100.

Sumit Nagal will face the Wildcard Pablo Llamas Ruiz in the first round. Sumit has a good draw, to be honest!

There's a former US Open champion in the singles draw, and he is seeded worse than Sumit...

Yes, Cilic beat De Minaur (Top 10) and Popyrin (top 30) last month in Dubai and won a ATP title last year at Hangzhou. He can certainly play top 100 tennis even now if he is motivated (but perhaps isn't as motivated at times as he has had many first round losses as well over the last year).

Naples challengers 125 singles draw , Nagal has tough one second round onwards, provided he wins first round*

Sumit starts with a good win.

At Naples Challenger 125, Italy (Clay)

[R1] Sumit Nagal (IND,139) d. Duje Ajdukoviv (CRO,167) 76(6) 64

Likely tough match against top seed Darderi next.

Attaboy, Sumit! This is a quality win for Sumit. No reason why can't take out Darderi. :goodluck:

Good to have Sumit back to winning ways after a longish hiatus. He is also playing doubles this week (why, oh, why?). But I think there is a good chance he'll take out the top seed in R2 of singles.

Just a conjecture. Maybe Sumit needs some match play. He has lost quite a few matches and barely played 1-2 matches in a tournament for what six months now or so. So, maybe he thought he just to hit more shots in match situations and doubles gives him that chance. I don't mind his trying out doubles and getting some practice. Maybe he did not think he would win a few rounds here or was unsure. And doubles makes him money. I don't know if his finances are such that he does not need to worry about money ...
