Oh, I read the original post incorrectly as Sanjay being optimistic of a win. Sorry about that.

Injuries, illness and loss of form. It wouldn’t be Indian tennis if one of our players didn’t experience this once every year!

we've likely seen the last good year from Sumit. He is getting older and he has failed to capitalize and get into the top 50 (which I think is a ceiling for him)

It would not be tennis from any country if one of their players did not experience this once every year - at least for countries with say five players playing ...

Basavareddy? He's pulled a Sumit act and disappeared for a month. Injury or not, I don't know.

Sumit Nagal is scheduled to play the Murcia Challenger on March 17 and the Naples Challenger on March 24. After that, he may play in the ATP Tournaments on Clay!!

Our rule on the forum is to open an individual thread for a player when that player wins a professional title. We relaxed that condition for Karan as he went inside top 500. So, we already have individual threads for Karan and Aryan. Dev Javia has not won any pro title or made it to top 500. So, no thread yet for him.

Basically we open threads when there will be a good number of posts on any player that could otherwise clutter the "miscellaneous results" thread or the tournament threads we have. We don't miss reporting the results of those like Dev Javia. It is all in the tournament threads (which are opened when there are more than a couple of Indians there) or in the "miscellaneous results" thread.

The criterion of winning a pro tournament seems to work for opening threads, because the player tend to make a big jump in the rankings and often start going to some events away from the group of players they are bunched with (usually in the 800 and below rank range). Then we will end up having too many posts in the "miscellaneous" threads on such players, so opening a separate thread makes sense.

There is also a reason to NOT open a thread. If we open a thread, say, for Dev right now, you probably won't see any posts for months on end there because he is usually playing events where many other Indians are playing, and there would be tournament threads where his results will be posted. But anybody who checks Dev's thread would find no posts and would think that we don't care for him and are not covering him. That is not good either. So we wait till the players separate themselves a bit when there will be a need for a thread (and it will be sustainable with enough posts).

Mod, Jay (Sameer above is also a Mod but he doesn't show it :) ... I tend to sign off as Mod when it is a moderation post)

So, Sumit will be back next week playing on European Clay.

This looks like his schedule for next 3 weeks-

March 17- Murcia Challenger 75- will be a seed
March 24- Naples Challenger 125
March 31- Marrakech ATP 250 qualies - will be a seed

The week after this is big Monte Carlo ATP masters where Sumit had his great run to the main draw last year. But, this year he does not look likely to make qualies draw there.

Hope Sumit has some success back playing on his favorite surface.
