On clay, very little to differentiate between wr 75-150. All matches should be tight.

It’s now Sumit’s ability to show us whether last year was an aberration or not. Most of our players haven’t been able to repeat their previous highs.

I watched the first set of that Sumit match and he missed 2 set points at 5-4, 40-15 on opponent serve, else this match could have finished in straight sets. Sumit appears good but lot more errors than usual in that set. It looks like he came back strong in second set. From the stats of third set, it looks like Sumit was all along struggling to his serve while Ficovich was holding easily. Sumit also saved a mp serving at 4-5, 30-40. Glad that Sumit scored when it mattered in third set tie break.

Sumit is facing Cerundolo for the first time and like all South Americans, Cerundolo is strong on clay. So, another tough match awaiting for Sumit.

In terms of UTR, nothing much separates them, Sumit is 14.30 while Cerundolo is 14.29. Ficovich is also 14.29.

Sumit took the first set against Juan Manuel Cerúndolo... 6-3, with a break in the 8th game. He was a up a break at 2-1 in the second but got broken back to 2-2 and it is 63 44 now. Sumit had a slight opening at 5-5 15-30 but Cerundolo hit an ace and then ggot the call at 30-30 on what seemed like a ball he hit out. Maybe not. He held. 63 56... Cerundolo tried hard in the next game but Sumit held after 3 deuces (no BPs)... 63 66, and it is a TB.

After an early trade of breaks, it went with serve from 2-2 to 5-5 in the TB and Sumit dropped a minibreak. JMC took the set on his serve... 63 67(5) 00

Here is a live video stream link - https://en44.sportplus.live/tennis/atp- ... g/6392404/

My video stream broke, so I don't know what happened at the end. Sumit retired after one game in the third, where he was broken :( :(

At the ATP 250 "IEB+ Argentina Open" in Buenos Aires (Clay)

[Q2] (4) Sumit Nagal (IND,129) l. Juan Manuel Cerúndolo (ARG,139), 63 67(5) 01 RET.

Seems like Sumit had some viral infection. Hopefully, he comes back strong next week.

Sumit Nagal has made it to MD as a lucky looser. He will face Corentin Moutet (#66). So, he seems fine now after retiring in Q2.

Hopefully he is better than 2 days ago. Had a virus, is all we heard - when he retired in the Q2. No idea how bad the illness was.

I guess Sumit still cannot et his moxie back. Lost today, but I couldn't watch, as I was teaching a lecture at the same time.

Well now we know. He hasn't been playing well for many months now. There was some hope that clay would change his fortunes. However, while he is still better on clay, he is nowhere near his early last year form on any surface now.

^^^ Unfortunately, that is correct. He has nowhere near the form he had a year ago. On the other hand, when I see him play, it does not look like his game has significantly regressed or anything. Not like he is less quick or weaker in his shots. No mechanical issues or anything is visible. He still has the shots and makes them. He is just not consistent and error-free in doing it like early last year. It is like he is just not dialed in fully, or like he just does not feel the confidence he had last year.

But that is his level now. Somewhere in the top-200, and may be even top-150, but not top-100.

His complete loss of form since July last year is really inexplicable. Let us hope he gets his mojo back in the rest of the LatAm clay run.

Sumit has made the main draw of ATP 500 at Rio next week. Hope he gets some wins here. Even one win will be good as this is an ATP 500 tournament.

He just decided to take a month off. Things went downhill after that. He was on a roll and should have exploited that. But then I guess he knows best.

He plays No 31 Baez. :-(

I'm not optimistic of a W.

On his form and his opponent being #31. The first almost rules out an upset.
