Rusty and top juniors are often underrated while they are moving up.

He posted a lot of training videos so he can't be THAT rusty. I am sure he knows how to keep himself in match shape even when he isn't playing tournaments. Effects of some injury looks more likely.

He can’t do both—be injured and post training videos. It’s clear he has an injury. I don’t know why we are tiptoeing around it. It’d be nice if he shared his problem, but it’s probably not good PR. It’s his prerogative. Hope he gets over whatever is bothering him and come back strong. To lose momentum like this must be hurting him more than anyone else.

I know how the dealings with the sponsors work in India and probably he didn't want to scare his new sponsors with an injury issue, This is purely a thought and I could be wrong on it.

But throughout his excellent run in Monte Carlo there was not even a hint or an iota of any visible signs of any injury or discomfort before he took the long break, so will go with his official version of a training break.

Training is completely different from match fitness. During a match, you have adrenaline for starters and you have been going for say 1.5 hours, etc. These conditions are not reproducible in training and it is not just a matter of keeping in shape.

I didn't know that he had significant endorsements which he needed to worry about. Otherwise, for players in the top-100 fringe, their main tour earnings come from making the main draw of the grand slams (generally $70-80K for losing in the first round and more if they win a round). With the FO and Wimbledon round the corner, he could risk $150-160K if he isn't able to play in those draws. My guess is that he is trying to ensure that he is fit for the GS events.

Sumit has made the main draw entry list for the Geneva ATP next week. As the last direct entry as of now.

Under the present conditions his best chances for R1 would be to face the non European's , the like 's of Shelton,Hijikita,Nakashima,Eubanks etc.
Hope he is recovered fully and back to his Monte Carlo form.

At the ATP 250 in Geneva, SUI (Clay)

[R1] Sumit Nagal (IND,93) vs (5) Sebastian Baez (ARG,19)

Not at all an easy match...

Disappointing. He isn't the same player as a month ago that played Rune.

Well, he has nothing to lose. He can come out with guns blazing and see what happens. Treat this as a match to work the rust out.

He is now prepping for French Open. He will fare better than you think. His comebacks from.injury has a trend. He takes time before going all out.

Damm.. Sumit loses a close opening set TB, untill 3 love in the TB was clearly looking a better player than his fancied opponent.
