Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Neither has been a favorite top-100 opponent of anyone. The favorite top-100 opponent is usually the #100 unless, of course, that is a youngster who is racing up and lands there for a short while before moving up on.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Raonic looked like a pudgy desi uncle who had some skills "back in the day" and has now slowed down and did not want to run anymore. Sumit could have put up a better show if he had put his mind to it. I wonder if he is alone or he has a team of advisors.prasen9 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2024 8:44 pm It wouldn't do much good except that he would be beaten by Rune. I suppose he would have gotten some more money and a win. But, really, if he could not figure out how to make a guy run and tire him out and get beaten by a washed out guy, albeit with a huge serve, then so be it. He will earn some points the right way by defeating people soon, I think.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit skips Phoenix Challenger despite would have comfortably made the main draw (cut off -#111). Perhaps taking a week’s break to prepare for Miami.

Raonic gave a walkover to Rune.Sanjay wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2024 9:36 pmRaonic looked like a pudgy desi uncle who had some skills "back in the day" and has now slowed down and did not want to run anymore. Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Should have played and don't understand this logic of a break or rest , especially when it is the business end of tournament play on the circuit and would have easily made the cut.
And also it was not the case like indian Challengers where he was playing continously for 2 weeks that an rest/break was needed.
Probably its a safety first attitude, where a probable loss would not have put him in a good mental state going into Miami.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Taking break is the right approach. Someone who has fitness issues. Come back with fresh pair of legs for the fifth slam. Is it still called that?

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Miami Masters that’s played in a parking lot should barely be called a Masters 1000, let alone a slam.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit has played 5 straight weeks so far starting with 3 Indian challenger, Dubai and IW. Although it has been only 1-2 matches in last 3 weeks, it does not give him any time to rest fully or work on something which he can do in short time.
Next week after Miami, he has already entred Napeles challenger in Italy which will mostly be followed by Estoril or Marrakech ATP tournament. Clay season is very important for him. So, only week where he could have taken a break is this week.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
^^^ Yeah I thought this was a much-needed break. 10-12 days in one place, when he can even do some proper physical training for 4 or 5 days. It is needed.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Taking appropriate breaks makes a lot of sense both from injury prevention and also playing fresh perspectives. That’s what most top players do. Playing continuously requires being born with great injury prevention genes or regularly lose in the first round or perhaps both.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Bummed that Sumit played as timidly as he did after watching fellow lucky loser Luca Nardi take out the Djoker! In his post match on court interview, Nardi was asked how he could go from losing to #462 a couple of weeks ago to this win over the GOAT….

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
So it's the shift from Key Biscayne to Hard Rock that made the difference. Apparently Hard Rock stadium is placed inside a football stadium.

So, the main stadium inside the Hard Rock stadium is clearly temporary. Are the other 25 courts (in the parking lot) also temporary?
In any case, Miami also has nearly $18MM in prize money (between men and women) and looks like the prize money is also being more equitably distributed (with more being distributed until the QFs and less after that compared to prior years).
