Only reasons may be injury or fatigue. I see he skipped Phoenix which I think was a good decision.
Anyway, let's hope he gets a good draw this time.

But on X he mentioned "miami next" four days ago. No reason for him to skip and I don't see any intention from his side.

BTW he is also added to the TOPS list. So hopefully with doing well in many tournaments and being added to TOPS now his financial woes would be over now for some time atleast.

Yes, taking appropriate rest is quite important for his grinding style of play. Skipping a $175K challenger for a $8MM Masters event seems like a logical decision to me.

Sumit is in the Qualies seeded 16. What is the minimum amount he will make if he loses in the first round?

It’s come down to asking this question before the match even starts? Interesting.

Good luck to Sumit for this match and he has a decent draw. Not sure how well he can play against top players on hard courts, but if he is in form, this is a winnable match for him.

Sumit has a decent path to the main draw after this win.

He won in straight sets.

At Miami Masters ATP 1000

[Q1] (16) Sumit Nagal (IND,97) d. Gabriel Diallo (CAN,134) 76(3) 62

Next,

[Q2] (16) Sumit Nagal (IND,97) vs. Coleman Wong (HKG,212)

Sumit beat Wong last month in Bengaluru Challenger, Wong did have a good upset win over #89 Gaston in Q1 though.

For the past few weeks I have been "benchmarking" Sumit with Nardi. They were both around the same rank during the India challengers, and Sumit beat Nardi there, and then Nardi pulled off a major one by beating the GOAT.

Sumit is ahead by a few spots so it will be interesting to see how things go for the rest of the year. Nardi does have the age advantage but Sumit is still in his peak years.
