Re: Sania Mirza Tournaments 2012
tough loss..could ave earned her 120 points and clash against top seeds
But again Vesnina lost too..she and Sania will head to Melbourne early and can hopefully practice well..Sania actually has not played a singles match in 2012..so hope things can be good from AO

She did. Lost the first round qualifying to Coco at Auckland.prassana wrote: ..Sania actually has not played a singles match in 2012..so hope things can be good from AO
The worrying aspect for her is that soon she will not be able to make the qualifying cut for the premier events in which she wishes to play doubles. Elena will not have that problem.

Mirza faces Pironkova in her first round with a possible 2nd round with Wickmayer and 3rd round against Radwanska
Pironkova has played a lot of matches at the hopman including against #1Wozniacki and #2 Kvitova..and San lacks match practice..hope Sania can win

I don't think it would have made any difference even if she had a lot of match practice. Pironkova is quite a strong player and i do not see sania coming through. hope they don't telecast it, that will only make it more painful.prassana wrote:San lacks match practice..hope Sania can win

Re: Sania Mirza Tournaments 2012
Sania does appear to be neglecting singles, as her focus seems to be on Doubles and MxD, where she has had so much more success. That R1 match will therefore be a lottery for her: if she gets her game going on the big stage, she might just pull off a win. But it is going to be tough!

Re: Sania Mirza Tournaments 2012
Please don't say that. My only chance to watch her live comes during the grand slams (especially AO which even shows her doubles and mixed doubles!). She is the sole Indian out there and I wont give up a chance to watch her in action. Bdw all these can be discussed in the tournament thread:akmohanty wrote: I don't think it would have made any difference even if she had a lot of match practice. How come people are still hoping tat sania will be awarded a wildcard in future? She hasn't done anything to deserve so in singles.

I don't see any reason why she won't. She got the wild card at Dubai in all previous occassions except 2006 when she had a direct entry. And then I don't any female tennis player is half as popular as her in the Arab countries.

Re: Sania Mirza Tournaments 2012
when they award WC to Sania,i don't know if it benefits Sania but it does help the tournaments especially in Dubai and Doha..i mean she is always made to play on CC night session which i don't think anyone outside top-10 gets..and the stadium is mostly packed like its weekend finals..so she attracts huge crowd which is good for the tourney..

Re: Sania Mirza Tournaments 2012
This year's Pattaya Open has a really strong field. Prassana, are you sure, Sania has made it to the Main Draw? The qualifying starts from Sunday. So, if she has to play there, she may not be available for the play-off in Fed Cup. Bdw is Vesnina playing at Pattaya? If not, I wonder whether Sania will play doubles.
