World Series Hockey (WSH)

Post by jayakris »

Starting a thread, as suggested by ssp in another thread. May move in some earlier posts above, later.

Over the last couple of days, most top players have written to HI (not to WSH folks, it seems) that they will skip WSH and go to the National team camp

Six top players not to play in WSH, Nov 30, The Hindu
Those were Bharat Chettri, Tushar Khandekar, Yuvraj Walmiki, P.R. Sreejesh, Sandeep Singh and Sardar Singh.

Six more pull out from WSH, Dec 2, The Hindu
Those are Rupinder Pal Singh, Danish Mujtaba, K. Chinglensana Singh, Manjeet Kullu, Birendra Lakra and Manpreet Singh.

Looks like most big names in the national team have decided to skip this in favor of the Olympics qualies. Serves WSH right for even suggesting that national players should be playing this when Olympics qualies are right there in India. Now, had the lowlifes in HI could work with the lowlifes in IHF and WSH, it woldn't have come to this. What a joke these guys. But I am glad that the players did the right thing (the way it looks for now). But we will wait and see.

National Players pull out of WSH are.< Thanks to stick2Hockey.com

Rupinder Pal Singh, Danish Mujtaba, Manjit Kullu, Brendra Lakra, Chingalesna Singh and Manpreet Singh.

Sandeep Singh, Bharat Chetri, Sardar Singh, PR Sreeesh and Yuvraj Walmiki pulled out, quoting a letter which their signature one by one.

WSH: HI claims six more players pull out
It seems now the players at Randburg in South Africa, where the Champions Challenge tournament is going on, is more focused about World Series Hockey than the event on hand.
We hope to get another set of six which will complete the whole team, next. It is apparent some section in the coaching group is enthusiastically engineering things other than technical

Tushar also pulled out of WSH, Ankit. I had posted the Hindu articles above on the 12 who have written so far to HI. I don't like what stick2hockey article's tone. What are the players supposed to do? When they decided to skip money (may be because they were threatened by HI and Nobbs) and chose to play for the national team, how can we blame them?

Yes. Tushar too, I missed him. WSH is catch 44 situation. Players are always scapegoats. I am wary about time and length of national camp. I wish WSH could be after OQ.

WSH has been postponed to Feb-end. Meanwhile, BCCI has terminated its contract with Nimbus and says it is cashing a bank guarantee of Rs 2000 crore!

The cavalier manner in which Indian organizers of such supposedly world-class events simply postpone/cancel them boggles the mind. Players from all over the world (including Pakistan, whose players risked their careers to sign up) have been training in India for several weeks (if not more) for the event. TV coverage is geared, advertising costs have been expended by all those involved, and then without any warning at all, the WSH is postponed by a clean 3 months! Breath-takingly irresponsible.

The postponement is more due to main Indian players not being available at this point of time due to olympic qualifiers & therefore the danger of WSH losing it's value. However, it could have been planned in much better way.

This is an article in Hindu from S. Thaygrajan on this -

WSH: A dream or a reality?

India XI vs World XI to promote WSH
"The entire technical team of WSH will be present in Chandigarh to ensure the smooth conduct of the match. Fans will also witness the fast paced thrill of a match played across four quarters instead of two halves, exactly as they can expect to watch when the tournament begins on February 29th, 2012."
The match is scheduled to commence at 6:00 pm at the sector 42 stadium.

So Pakistan doesn't want its players to take part in the WSH! I don't know why does sports bodies come up with such strange decisions. WSH can only improve the skills of
Pakistani players and it will do no harm to them. Absolutely stupid, can never understand their egos! http://bit.ly/v5P7GM

HC paves way for players` participation in World Series Hockey
We are of the opinion that the matter can be placed before the the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in the same prospective as narrated by us in the judgement
The problem can be resolved once it is ensured that the domestic event, to be organised by IHF with Nimubus Sports as sponsers, do not come in conflict with the training schedule prescribed for the international events ...,"
the bench said.
