Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Looks like Ram's days against any top 200 are numbered. At the most there might be some noises in the qualies and for that also he needs to be lucky as we saw in QR1
Last year after creating a world record in the past decade of 12 losses , notched few wins and came back to lodge a record of 13 losses this year. Hope he doesn't create a hattrick of this ignonimous records.

What record is this? Isn't it Vincent Spadea with the record for losing 21 in a row?
https://tennismash.com/2018/02/12/anato ... ng-streak/
This was a winless streak approaching record length. The longest WTA losing streak belongs to Aranxta Rus, who lost 17 straight tour-level matches in 2013. On the men’s side Donald Young also lost 17 times in a row while Vincent Spadea holds the record with 21 consecutive defeats, which occurred almost 20 years ago.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Not sure that I'd compare an ATP or WTA tour level losing streak with a streak which includes almost no ATP main draw level play but lower level competitions (and qualies to the lower level competitions).

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Well, the losing streak is all history now. Congratualtions RamK, for winning the M25 in Dharwad this week.
[R1] (4) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,730) d. d. (Q) Faisal Qamar (IND,1350), 76(3) 62
[R2] (4) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,730) d. d. Ishaque Eqbal (IND,939), 76(3) 63
[QF] (4) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,730) d. d. (8) S D Prajwal Dev (IND,656), 64 46 61
[SF] (4) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,730) d. (1) Nick Chappell (USA,431), 36 63 76(2)
[F] (4) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,730) d. (3) Digvijay Pratap Singh (IND,586) 76(5) 76(6)
He showed a lot of focus this week, and good confidence too, as is clear from all the tiebreakers he won. He went 5 of 5 in that. Hopefully the injury issues and the serious lack of confidence that caused him not to pick up any ATP singles points for a 5 month-long winless streak this year from April to September is all gone. He added 25 points to his current 40 points (out of which 16 fall off on Nov 20th and 12 more on January 7th). So he will be at least inside top-800 in January and can mount a comeback without worrying about entries to M25s (or qualies if he goes for doubles at any challengers). Go Ramk!!

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
I guess ideally he would like to be at least in 500's in January to be able to be a seed in challenger qualies and within striking distance of getting back into 300's and challenger main draws.
I think that is why he is playing next week's M15 futures. There are a couple of M25's in India in November too. So, he will probably play those too and try to get his rankings as high as possible by early Jan.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
On the Futures Tour, which is sanctioned and run by the International Tennis Federation, there are two types of tournaments, M25 and M15. The M25 is $25,000 and the M15 is $15,000. If the tournament has an H next to it, it means that the hospitality is included. FYI—this is the total purse; winner gets only $3,600 and $2,160 for M25 and M15, respectively.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Ramkumar is back up to 557 in the singles rankings, after having fallen all the way to 730 in mid-October 2023. This is of course still a far cry from his career-high of 111 (July 2018), or his year-end rankings of 137 in 2017, 133 in 2018, 176 in 2019, 190 in 2020, 221 in 2021 or even 438 in 2022. For a guy who is very fit, and much less prone to injury than the typical Indian player, Ramkumar's ranking trajectory suggests a dire dearth of good, sustained coaching.
He is also 187 in the doubles rankings currently, compared with a career high of 58 (15 August 2022) and a year-end ranking of 71 last year.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
This week, Ramkumar is only playing doubles at the Matsuyama Challenger in Japan, partnering Purav. They play the top seeded Sabanov brothers in R1.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
He wins titles in both M25's in Mumbai and Kalaburagi. So, RamK has 75 points from 3 titles in India and is now back in top 450. This is the end of the season for him. He has 12 points to defend in first week of Jan, even if he is not able to defend those he will still be inside top 500 and has a good stretch of tournaments in Asia and India in Jan/Feb to try to get close to top 350/300 for getting into challenger main draws later in the year.sameerph wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 6:09 pm I guess ideally he would like to be at least in 500's in January to be able to be a seed in challenger qualies and within striking distance of getting back into 300's and challenger main draws.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
This week RamK played only doubles along with Saketh at Nothanburi Challenger in Thailand and they were second seeds but got upset by Korean/Taiwanse pair in super tie break.
For next week, RamK has just made it in to qualifying draw and will also be playing doubles along with Saketh. Hope he has better success in singles and doubles next week.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Ramk wins Q1 of Nonthanburi with a decisive straight set victory over #392 Akita Santillan. Good win for Ramk and hope he qualifies into the main draw.
