Re: Vijay Sundar Prasanth
Still a good week for him... playing in Indoor hard courts would have been different. Someone like Ranuak played in UK for weeks without a single win. So good week for him and for the doubles finals

$10K GBR F20 - Hard Indoor
[F] N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth (IND,812) / David Pel (NED,1188) l. (3) Josh Goodall (GBR,692/519s) / Harry Meehan (GBR,846) 36 64 01(8)
VSP/Pel were up a break early on in the first set, but couldn't hold on to the lead... and in the 2nd set they broke to win the set 6-4 after not converting the first two from 15-40...
On to the match tie-break now....
Tough loss....., they were trailing most of the match tie-break until it changed at 7-6 and at 8-7 they had a chance to serve out the match, but they lost both serves and didn't win another point...
Good result neverthless....
for next week......

Poor loss to a guy who hasn't had any good result this year...
Earlier we had Raunak Mahuja trying his luck in UK. Somehow UK and Turkey have not been good hunting ground for Indians at Futures level

Re: Vijay Sundar Prasanth
Time to bring this thread up as VSP had the best performance of his career thus far when he qualified for the Chennai open ATP today on the way beating India no.4 and last year's quarter finalist Yuki Bhambri and Russian top 150 player Ilya Marchenko making stupendous comebacks in both the matches.
VSP had begun to show good form towards the end of last year when he qualifies into and won a round in the 2 challenger in Indore and Pune and reached SF in all 3 futures. But, this week was a really the biggest achievement for him getting to play the main draw of an ATP tournament for the first time in his career.
Whatever happens in the main draw, this performance should take him to just inside top 500 for the first time in his career and hope this performance will spur him to greater heights in terms of play and rankings.

Re: Vijay Sundar Prasanth
Yes, truly wonderful article. What an enterprising young man, apart from being a dedicated tennis pro!
Re: Vijay Sundar Prasanth
my deepest intention is that he gets his breakthrough.
In the late 60s, ramanathan krishnan suggested to my dad that he send my brother for training abroad with harry hopman, however it didnt happen because we were dirt poor then. Later, raghu beat ramesh krishnan in1978 in pune when ramesh was the national champion, but still there was no sponsor money, the Aita didnt care, so raghu took his meager earnings and travelled all over europe for two years, just as vsp is doing today, so i know what vsp is going through now and feel his pain. the thing that drove the final nail in the coffin of raghu's tennis career was at a satellite tournament in spain, when the umpire and linesmen all coluded with each other, rampantly cheating on each and every ball that went even remotely close to the lines. He had to win entire matches hitting the balls at least a foot inside the lines...the cheating was so bad when playing local players.
Dont know how the cheating is these days, but at least they have neutral umpires now i think.
