I guess this is one of those bitter-sweet records. Clearly, LP would have preferred to have won more at the ATP level although winning a challenger is pretty tough as well (probably similar to winning a couple of rounds of a typical lower level ATP tournament).

Now, the stats looks like this-

Leander Paes 11
Yuki Bhambri 7
Somdev Devvarman 5
Ramesh Krishnan 4
Vijay Amritraj 2
Saketh Myneni 2
Mahesh Bhupathi 1
Harsh Mankad 1
Rohan Bopanna 1
Sashi Menon 1
Sumit Nagal 1

Total of 35 titles. Yuki is second only to Leander now.

Of course, Ramesh Krishnan and Vijay Amritraj would have a lot more ATP tour titles.

Here is what I can find on Challenger doubles titles (those with 5 or more)

Lender Paes - 25 (8 with Mahesh Bhupathi)
Divij Sharan - 15 (7 with Purav Raja)
Mahesh Bhupathi - 13 (8 with Leander Paes)
Purav Raja - 13 (7 with Divij Sharan)
Rohan Bopanna - 11 (8 with Aisam Quereshi)
Harsh Mankad - 7
Prakash Amritraj - 7
Yuki Bhambri - 6
Vishnu Vardhan - 6 (4 with N. Sriram Balaji)
Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan - 5

The #2 in the list may be surprising for many of you. I knew that Divij had won a bunch but didn't know that he had that many! His other 8 titles (other than with Purav) have come with 7 different partners (2 with Yuki).

I will check if I missed anybody, but I think that is the top 10. Took some work to go through everybody's title list and pick out the challenger titles.

Sumit Nagal has 1 too !

Also on the doubles front, Saketh has 7 !! Didn’t realize he won that many but he has 4 with Sanam and 1 each with Divij, Jeevan and NVSP

Thanks, Indian tennis fan. Added Sumit to my list above.

Divij winning more titles than Mahesh and Rohan is indeed surprising.

Looking at those stats it is surprising that Purav/Divij didn't make it as a pair. That close loss at Wimbledon really dented their faith in each other.

Must be somewhat frustrating for Ram that he is yet to win his first CH tournament. Only the young Aussie Alex de Minaur is ranked above him and hasn't won one.

Yes, RamK has made 4 challenger finals in last 1 year but no title. But, is there only 1 player above him who does not have a challenger title ?

Thought of updating this list now. This is the updated list of challenger singles title as of now -

Leander Paes 11
Yuki Bhambri 7
Somdev Devvarman 5
Ramesh Krishnan 4
Vijay Amritraj 2
Saketh Myneni 2
Prajnesh Guneswaran 2
Sumit Nagal 2
Mahesh Bhupathi 1
Harsh Mankad 1
Rohan Bopanna 1
Sashi Menon 1

Total of 39 titles.

Breaking it down yearwise since 2001-
2019- 1 ( Sumit)
2018- 3 ( Prajnesh 2, Yuki 1)
2017- 2 ( Yuki 1, Sumit 1)
2015- 5 ( Yuki 2, Somdev 2, Saketh 1)
2014- 3 ( Yuki 1,Somdev 1, Saketh 1)
2013 - 1 (Yuki)
2012- 1 (Yuki)
2010- 1 ( Somdev)
2008- 1 ( Somdev)
2007- 1 ( Rohan Bopanna)
2006- 1 (Harsh Mankad)

Leander won his last challenger title in 2000. From 2001 to 2005 for 5 long year we had no title at all. Then, we had 6 in 7 years between 2006 and 2013. Last 6 years since 2014 have been most productive- we have won 14 titles in those 6 years, more than double the titles we won for 13 years from 2001 to 2013.

Again reiterating the fact that we have been able to get much more quality players at the challenger level in last 6 years than 13 years before that. Somdev, Yuki, Saketh, Prajnesh and Sumit. RamK too has been pretty good though unfortunately he has missed out on winning a title.
Except for Somdev, none of the others above have been able to get extended runs on ATP tour though. Hope Prajnesh, Sumit, RamK and Yuki are able to do it next 3-4 years.

Thanks Sameer. Things are looking good in recent times, just hoping that the we have some new players to step up after Sumit and Sasi. So far not many names come up. Lot of Indian origin kids tho, but we don't have the same mechanisms to have them represent us, the way Japan has for Naomi Osaka and Taro Daniel for eg. It's nice to have a record of these lists, was thinking if a similar one can be made for best yearly prize money collected by Indians.. for eg. Praj has collected 370k this year, it gives a broader perspective than the best 18 tournaments you have. Of course it's not a good idea when you factor in the increase in prize money as well as inflation.
