Re: Indian Women's Hockey
Our women lost 2-3 against Argentina in the last match of pro league. Argentina did not lose a single match in this pro legue. So, this was an encouraging performance by our players over this weekend.

Re: Indian Women's Hockey
Ok, those were not the last matches for women in pro league. There were 2 matches left on this European tour against USA which were played in last 2 days and we won those 4-2 and 4-0 respectively. USA was a pretty decent team I think. So, these dominating wins against them are impressive.
Out womens team does look quite promising even without Rani Rampal. Some of the younger players are quite speedy.
Next real test for them would be world cup which starts in few days time in Spain and Netherlands ( July 1 to 17).

3rd in the Pro league is excellent.
However, we have to be realistic as we got outplayed by Belgium and were flattered by getting points off an U21 German and 3rd string Dutch team. England couldn't travel due to covid and that gave us 6 'free' points.
That said, we played very well in some matches (7-1 win v China, 3-3 draw with Argentina and these 2 wins v USA). Our women tackle better than our men (low body position, flat sticks) but there are still way too many basic errors- failing to trap the ball on the open side, poor first touch and dribbling in risky areas and the usual Indian habit of gifting away soft PCs.
Neha, Navneet and Salima Tete are brilliant players. Savita is great, but that is expected of Indian keepers as they get plenty of practice
We struggled to score for 50 mins v USA today, despite creating 3-4 clear chances (just had to push the ball into an open goal)
Looking forward to the WC, we have a tough group and I expect us to struggle v England and NZ, because they are more physical and press higher up the pitch than Argentina. We simply have to take our chances better than we did in the Pro League

Re: Indian Women's Hockey
Is there some information on whether the body rests enough for internationals to play two matches on consecutive days or more, e.g., 4 matches in 5-6 days? If not and the authorities will schedule no rest days, then should some rotation policy be better? That is, player A may be better than player B. But, if player B has rested, then she is better than player A playing two days in a row, especially if player A is x,y,z (injured, generally unfit, old, but brilliant). Has any team tried this systematically? Or are such back to back games a rarity and does not really happen in top tournaments?sameerph wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 4:27 pm Ok, those were not the last matches for women in pro league. ^^^ Adding the title to the link (Saffron, in case you didn't know, you can just place the link title in between the URL tags and the link itself after "url=" in the first tag... Or you can copy/paste the title first into the textbox, then click the link icon in the tools above to place URL tags to either end of the title, and then add the link in the first tag with an equal sign)

All good. Just the link and info were split into two separate posts. The link between the two was implied but not obvious.Saffron Lenin wrote: ↑Fri Jan 06, 2023 6:28 pm I put information and give the link associated with it....like I always do!!!!

Re: Indian Women's Hockey
Hockey India announced that the Indian women’s team will travel Down Under and play five matches from May 18-27 at MATE Stadium in Adelaide.
While Savita & Co. will play three matches against the senior national team, they will face off against Australia A in the remaining two games. The tour will also help the players prepare for Asian Games to be played later this year.
