Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...
I was family friends with the erstwhile striker of Qatar in 2015-16. He was a professional from Uruguay, made a citizen of Qatar within a year or whatever is the minimum FIFA required. Then, he played over a decade in Qatar as their striker and scored the most number of goals. Interestingly, although they were going back to Uruguay after his career, he was nearing the end, he said that his daughter would keep his Qatari citizenship, because it allowed her to get free university at some of the top universities in Qatar, e.g., CMU Qatar, TAMU Q (tainted though it is being the aggies ), etc.
So, this is not Qataris but the best Qatari money can buy.

Looks like there are 3-4 Indian origin players that play in top 15 leagues, who could move the Indian national team from their current level to closer to Asian top 10 which would be close to WC qualification level. However, the politicians have to step in and allow them to play for India in a way that meets the FIFA requirements without them having to sacrifice their professional careers.

No!!! Only domestic players with Indian passport should be allowed !!! No OCI card holders should be allowed (In My Opinion)arjun2761 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 4:57 am Looks like there are 3-4 Indian origin players that play in top 15 leagues, who could move the Indian national team from their current level to closer to Asian top 10 which would be close to WC qualification level. Yes, we should put more restrictions on our team so that others can use the rules maximally and we fall behind further.

Using imported players is a short- term solution. No team can win world cup that way (I am talking not talking about immigrants)

Not sure how much you know about world soccer but India is unlikely to win the World Cup in the next 100 years. The goal is to somehow qualify from one of weakest regions in world soccer.
Meanwhile Morocco made the finals in the last WC with a significant contingent of non-resident Moroccans. They are widely respected soccer country while India is a laughing stock in the world of soccer. Perhaps, being a laughing stock is built into your psyche but hopefully there are others that don’t have that mentality…

Who are these 3-4 OCIs who can bolster the Indian team? The last one I know was Michael Chopra who was interested but has retired. I think he played in ISL also.

rajit - at the start of 2023, we could have played Daniel Batth, Manprit Sarkaria, Yan Dhanda who would all be automatic starters for us.

Thanks. The other footabller I remember was Arata Izumi who played for India in the early 2010s after giving up his Japanese citizenship.Sin Hombre wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 1:52 am rajit - at the start of 2023, we could have played Daniel Batth, Manprit Sarkaria, Yan Dhanda who would all be automatic starters for us.

Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...
Just came across probably one of the most informative interviews concerning the actual behind-the-scenes ongoings and workings on Indian Football from a data analyst perspective. This interview with Joy Gabriel, Head of Analysis of the Indian Men National Team and FC Goa, touches on so many different things, from where we stand in certain metrics , what our Asian Cup opponents brings to the table, tactics, how the analyst teams gathers information, to the impact of the Indian Arrows team and the U17 world cup India had on our current national team and many more aspects.
