I agree that the captain and coach should nurture talent. What was Hardik's performance in Indian domestic T20s until then? FC, List-As?

We should nurture talented allrounders who are just starting. Venkatesh is not that good. Dighe, maybe we can improve his bowling by good coaching. But, we should focus on the young like Raj Hangar etc.

For a change, the IPL this year will be a 2-month long trial for the T20I World Cup squad. I think the first thing we will all be looking out for is whether the reconstructed body of Rishabh Pant is performing as well as his pre-injury performances/promise. If he is, then a lot falls into place -- although prasen9 will surely argue that he doesn't deserve an automatic place based even on his lifetime T20/T20I record. Others returning from injury like KL Rahul, Virat Kohli (not injury but enforced break), Ishan Kishan (ditto), Hardik Pandya etc. will be worth watching out for. And also how Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan adjust to T20s after the confidence boost from their test performances. So too early to be speculating about the T20I WC squad.

In my eyes, a lot of these people are not ones we should be looking out for. I would look for which wicket-keeper bats the best, i.e., highest SR after an average of 25 for the top order or 20 for the lower order. If anyone should get some brownie points for their past performance, it should be Jurel. If anything, Pant and Ishan should get negative points for their lousy T20I careers.

I would be interested in seeing if any pace-bowling allrounder emerges.

Next perhaps whether Rahul and Kohli can bat at a high SR consistently.

Who among Jadeja, Axar, Bishnoi is in better form. Etc.

I would certainly see what Pant is doing but with an eye towards the test team in Australia.

V Iyer also had domestic performance in 2021 domestic season. A fringe player performing as top run getter in his debut IPL season against best attacks in the World says alot, even Hardik as batter did'nt had such performance

It says he has batting talent. Which is true. He can hit spinners hard. But, many have such talent. They cannot rest after one season. Last season he was good. If he is good another season, he should certainly be considered for a return. You need to keep performing day in and day out. This is not Zambia we are talking about. We are talking about the best T20I cricket team in the world or close to it.

Even Zambia doesnt throw out any players with just 2 odis & 9 T20Is. In that 2 odis whole team failed but V Iyer got axed. Seasons are for certain selected players not for hyped players otherwise Ruturaj could have got more chances then Gill, no matter how he plays, but he deserved more chances for being top scorer in IPL

Every team throws out people without giving them a fair chance. Zambia does not play ODIs and T20Is.

Ruturaj got 6 ODIs and 19 T20Is. He has gotten his chances. Venkatesh has not gotten very many. Being the highest run-getter in T20Is when you open is good but not great. They key is impact and impact is obtained by batting fast. Ruturaj is about average wrt SR. Anyway, doing something once should not guarantee you life-time job in the team. If you do badly in T20Is, you should not be in the team, leave aside how many runs you have scored in the lower level.

Here is a list of players who were not given a full run by Zimbabwe, Zambia's neighbor in T20Is. So, saying that they do not drop people without a fair run is nonsense. You can find that with every nation.

Zambia has played odis and like all other sides they have T20 status. However, their mrmbership cancelled by ICC because of Board's issue that does'nt matches with ICC's criteria.

Still Ruturaj's IPL, SR is better then KL who took free chances and let the team down in WC and also more then hyped prince. Ruturaj warmed in the bench and hyped prince got his T20I opportunity because of personal likeness by the team management. So for few 40,50 is not enough and for few 19, 20 is enough. Racial politics is prime in Zimbabwe cricket, so selection of players happens there based on colour, which is rubbish thing for arguement.

Ajay Mandal has decent numbers for Chhattisgarh, but he should change IPL sides if he wants to play regularly (or even occasionally). As long as CSK have Jadeja, they have no reason to play Mandal.

Examining talent with equal opportunities is not possible. Matches are played on different pitches and different oppositions. That said, I agree I would pick Ruturaj before Rahul as a pure bat. Not before Gill, who has performed better in T20Is than Ruturaj. And, Gill has done very well in ODIs. I would only consider Rahul for the keeping position if there is no other better keeper in the IPLs. I suspect someone else will shine this year. If he is not chosen as the keeper, we should not have him in the team before Ruturaj. He should be the first backup batsman but after Rinku, Gill and Dubey who have shown more than him in T20Is.

Agree. But, replacements should have batted better than the failed stars. If the replacements failed their whole life in a lower level, they should not be given promotion. If they have failed in T20Is, they should not be taken to the WC.

When selection happens beyond performance its difficult to say the reason of getting drop. Still performance based reason can't be found how Karun Nair was dropped after 6 test matches, being a second triple centurian for India. Many in that list left Zimbabwe after playing few games as they did'nt fit in the qouta system, secondly, ZC is one of the poorest board so performance doesn't comes to matter as players leave Zimbabwe and are happy to play county, second division leagues or club cricket in SENA, atleast to earn their livelihood.

You are the biggest nonsense who is running away by bringing Zimbabwe & Zambia in the topic. You must have brain to understand when it said it meant top cricket playing nations not the weak associates or any banned cricket nations

Please don’t keep bringing Pandya’s name. Pandya had genuine pace and had a batting avg of 22 and SR of 180 in his first IPL season. Even though he did not bowl great, he had genuine pace and his was a skill set that we lacked. Name a bowler who can bat at his pace and also bowl genuinely quick. All those Ramandeep and Venkatesh are bowlers of much slower pace. For them to get selected, they have to show top order battin skills and consistent bowling.

Umran if he could bat like Hardik would be a regular in the indian t20 team even if he is going for lot of runs.

That is why Pandya who cannot bowl should have no place in the team.

Our problem is that our very good batsman don’t bowl and our best bowlers can’t bat. We find balance by having Jadeja and Pandya who can do both… but that makes our batting very weak in the T20 world. We are going to find elimination games difficult to crack until we find prospects that can solve that. When ur batting depth is so poor, it makes top order batsman play more safely .

DK should feel some shame, playing the game since 2004, now becomming a big obstacle for talented young player, warming in the bench. Team will again make a big mistake if they include these last minute enteries before WC
