Re: 2008 Asian Tour
Year 2008 has become a golden year in Indian golf. There will be as many as four international tournament in India in this year. With Thailand, Korea, Indonesia, China hosting so many events every year, India had been hosting just 1 or sometimes 2 events in a year and that also with very little prize money. To attract good players, prize money need to be high. But this year we are hosting two big money events - a jointly sanctiioned European/Asian and a tri-sanctioned Euro/Asian/Australasian event, plus the regular Asian tour event Hero Honda with bigger purse this year, and a newly announced Asian event SAIL Open in Noida.
Two of the four events are sure to be permanent event in Indian calender. The tri-sanctioned Johnnie Walker Classic rotates to different countries every year, so we won't be hosting it in future for a while. Hopefully SAIL open will also be a permanent fixture in Indian calender. With Indian players now competeing quiet regularly at the highes level, the country is also waking up. Four tournaments is next to just China with 5 events in 2008 Asian tour. Indian golf has finally come of age.

And no Shiv as well.
Asian Order of Merit:
4 Indians in Top 5
6 Indians in Top 8
Of course this is due to Indian Open & our good showing in Indonesia... and all our top pros playing these 2 events.

Re: 2008 Asian Tour
In the last two years, we had two Indian players, Shiv and SSP make their mark using the Asian Tour. I am looking forward to a new name showing up this year in the Asian tour. I expect SSP to move over to the European tour now that he has won a tour event.

Re: 2008 Asian Tour: Sail Open
SSP Chowrasia is being touted as the favorite for Sail Open starting on Thursday this week. He has certainly raised the profile of golf in India to some extent. Many of the Indians do know who is Tiger Woods but most of them are still ignorant about the top players such as Ernie Els or Phil Mickelson. Chowrasia's victory last week is certainly remarkable because of the quality of the field he beat. SSP may still be in the dream world about what he has achieved.
It was good for SSP that he took a week break after his victory to settle down. Although it will very hard to follow up such a good result, I hope that SSP will be able to focus and play top quality golf this week. But in my mind I think the favorite for this tournament has to be Jyoti Randhawa. Last weekend JYoti was in great putting form. If he plays like that, he would be the favorite. In Indian Open he was a disappointment, but he got a top 10 last week that indicates that he is back in form. I gues he must be desparate to win a tournament, so watch out for Jyot.
This is a small tournment but I hope in the wake of the high quality Indian open, and in the excitement of up coming Johnnie Walker tournament, the Sail Open will also get more publicity. The top players for this tournament are the Asian tour stars the likes of Jyoti, Thaworn Wiratchant, Prayad Marksaeng, Chinnarat Phadungsil, Thammanoon Srirot and Mamat.

Re: 2008 Asian Tour
Not a great start for SSPC on day 1.
Though favourite, he finished on level par with the leaders at -6.
He was +2 until he played his last 2 holes and managed to get his only birdies on the 17th & 18th.
Jyoti had a terrific round. Started with an Eagle and was -6 until a bogey on his last hole.
So, Jyoti is -5 and is tied 3rd place. I expect Jyoti to cruise to victory here.
Surprisingly a Wednesday start matching teh WGC event.

Re: 2008 Asian Tour
Not surprising to see that SSPC's putter was cool today. Hopefully it will get hot in the coming rounds. While Jyoti brought his hot putter from Indonesia that saw off 4 birdies, an eagel and a bogey.

Re: 2008 Asian Tour
Three players above Jyoti and Gaganjeet are:
1. Mark BROWN (NZL) -11 (205)
2. Scott HEND (AUS) -10 (206)
2. Rhys DAVIES (WAL) -10 (206)
Jyoti did not play well last two days although he was lucky in 2nd round to get a good score. But in 3rd round he could just make a par. If needs to improve his game by few notches if he wants to win a tiltle. On the otherhand, good show by youngster Bhullar. He missed winning last year when he finished
2nd. On average it was a bad day for Indians. I wish better luck for last round. and hopefully we'll see an Indian winner.

Re: 2008 Asian Tour
Is 20 year old Gaganjeet Bhullar the player to follow this year? After missing the cut in the Indian Open, he seems to have pulled up his game. The next round will provide a hint to his development.

Re: 2008 Asian Tour
Jyoti would be very disappointed that he couldn't convert this.. A very satisfying performance for Bhullar. And a decent performance from Ashok Kumar who just missed out on a top10. Its been a while since we saw him doing anything decent. btw, Is Ashok Kumar part of regular APGA tour?
