2008 European Tour - BMW PGA Championship

Post by Prem »

In HSBC Champions Tournament in China Gaurav Ghei & Jyoti both posted similar scores of -2 to lie tied 22nd.
Leaders are at -8 and one of them is Jyoti's playing partner Kevin Stadler.
Good steady start by both.
This is the first event of the 2008 EPGA Tour.

Last week Volvo Masters (the last event of 2007) finished in Spain and the 2008 year starts the very next week in China. No break whatsoever for EPGA golfers......just shows how much golf is being played these days

Add to that a good start by Vijay Singh. Vijay Singh(-5) is 3 strokes behind the joint leaders Niclas FASTH and  STADLER at -8. The last week winner Cabrera also continued with good round at -4, tied along with Mickelson, Harrington and KJ Choi.

All three need to tighten their belt if they want something out of this tournament. :)
The tournament is only half way, Vijay can still win the tounament, Jyoti can still finish in top 5 and Ghei can still aim to get in top 10. C'mon guys, make it happen.

Today both Indian had poor round, as Jyoti scored 6 over and Gaurav managed 9 over ... :damn:

Jyoti had 3 birdies, 3 bogeys and 3 double bogeys ... other hand Gaurav didn't score a single birdie but managed 7 bogeys and a double bogey in his round ... :damn:

Vijay is 1 under for the day after playing 16 holes and currently sole 5th position with 8 under.

Indeed, very disappointing results. A missed opportunity for Jyoti and Gaurav to do well in a big tournament. Vijay Singh also could not make any inroads as he just got stuck at 5th spot for the last three rounds.

... And Gaurav has put himself in a big hole with a round of +5. Projected cut is EVEN par and it may drop down -1. So Rahil and Johl do have some chance of making the cut if they can return a 2 under of better round.

[Repeating my post from Asian tour thread with scores]

T12 Daniel CHOPRA    66 68 - 6
T12 Shiv KAPUR      67 67 - 6
T33 S.S.P. CHOWRASIA 69 67 - 4
T63 Rahil GANGJEE    71 68 - 1
---------- Cut @ - 1 ------------
T96 Amandeep JOHL    71 71 + 2
WDRW Gaurav GHEI    75  WDRW

Good results. Four out of six made it to money rounds. All four almost had a similar round of -2 or -3. Shiv Kapur finished with style with 3 birdies in last 3 holes.

Both Shiv Kapur and Daniel Chopra are just outside the top 10 is not a big deal. At -6 they are just one stroke behind the big pack of 9 players tied at 3rd place, and 2 strokes behind the 2nd place at -8. But the leader Robert KARLSSON at -12 has opened a big lead.

Rahil is going wild in 3rd round. After playing 6 holes, he got his first and only par hole in the front nine. He started with a double bogey :( and then reeled a set of 5 birdies before getting his first par. However, two more bogeys on 8th and 9th meant that he made a turn at -1 for the day. He opened the back nine with two more birdies to go to -3 and since then parred 6 more holes. Rahil is at -4 and T37 right now.

Update: Rahil finished the 3rd round same way as he started, with  a double bogey :(
After 7 birdies, 2 double and 2 more single bogeys, Rahil had a 1 under round and finshed at -2.

Update: Rahil is now T51 at the end of 3rd day.

Rahil started his 3rd round with a double bogey, S.S.P Chowrasia also could not make a good start and made a bogey on his first hole. After 12 holes, he scored 3 birdies and 1 more bogey to go to -5. Currently he is T29. Go SSP!

Update: SSP bogeys  15th :( to go to even par for the day. He is now T42

Update: SSP plays the last 3 holes at par. With a par round he remains at -4 and currentlt T43 position, which may not change much.

Daniel Chopra also stumbled at first hole. However, Daniel has recovered with birdies on 3rd and 4th to enter top 10. After 4 holes, he is currently T10 shared with 13 players.

Only Shiv Kapur managed to remain unscathed by the first hole. And he has scored 3 birdies in mext 3 holes to go to the sole 2nd spot at -9. Go Shiv!!!

Update: Daniel birdies 7th to go to -8 and T5 spot, shared with 11 players. Shiv after 6 holes remains at 2nd spot, shared among 3 players.

Update: Both Shiv and Daniel get one more birdie, however, Shiv(-10) after 9 holes remains T2, shared with one player. Daniel(-9) moves to T4 but he still remains in a big pack of players, as 7 players share T4. The leader Robert KARLSSON is still 4 strokes ahead at -14

Update: After 14 holes both Daniel and Shiv are T5 at -10. They need another birdie to catch up with 2nd spot. KARLSSON  is racing away at -16, 5 strokes away from his 3 nearest rivals at -11

Update: Shiv and Daniel finished their rounds at 5 and 4 under par. Shiv currently shares 2nd spot at -11 while Dan shares 6th spot at -10. KARLSSON dropped a stroke and after 12 holes he is -15. The positions can change as still some players are on the course. But it may not be too different. What we still need to see that how KARLSSON plays the remaining holes. If he plays the remaining holes over par, he could be vulnerable on Sunday. On the other hand, he can consolidate his lead of 4 strokes with some birdies.
