Re: ITF Team Juniors (u16 Davis/Fed Cup, u14 World Jun. Tennis)
Phew, it almost happened as feared against Iran but we did pull thru in the end .
Our # Bushan Haobam won his match against Iran #2 in straight sets but then surprisingly we fielded our #3 Debashis Sahu instead of #1 Rushil Khosla. Rushil did play later in doubles so injury cannot be the reason. Maybe they wanted him fresh for doubles match. But, Debashis lost to Iran #1 in straight sets. And in deciding doubles, Rushil/Bushan lost the first set but came back to win the second and then the super tie break 10-6.
So, we are into semi finals against as were were in girls. But, again only 3 places available for Asia Oceania teams in world group. So, we need 1 more win out of the next 2 tough matches. We are up against Kazakhstan in the SF. I think this is our best chance to win and qualify. Kazak boys are both ranked below 500. So, at least terms of ITF junior rankings our boys are ahead but we never know in this age group if they have played enough at ITF junior level.
If we lose against Kazakhstan, we will be up against loser of Australia-Japan SF which will tougher.

And both Bushan and Rushil win their singles matches against Kazakhstan. Bushan in 3 close sets 6-4 in third set against Kazak #2 and Rushil 7-5 6-0 against Kazak #1.
We are thru to the final tomorrow against Japan and also qualify for 16 team world finals.

Great. At least some talent is there at this level. We have just been horrible for most of the last so many years.

Yes, I checked back this thread and last time we qualfied any team for world group was back in 2016 when got both boys under 16 and girls under 16 teams in last 16. So, it has been 6 years.
Have heard good things about left hander Rushil Khosala. Bushan Haobam too did well here and we also have our best junior since while Manas Dhamne too in this age group.

Re: ITF Team Juniors (u16 Davis/Fed Cup, u14 World Jun. Tennis)
And we beat Japan 2-1 to win the Asia Oceania title for junior davis cup.
Bushan lost 36 63 62 against Japanese #2 but Rushil beat Japanese #1 63 36 60 to level us at 1-1 and then Rushil-Bushan combined to beat the Japanese duo 63 64 to win the tie for us.
Rushil appears to be some talent. Beat everyone here barring Australian #1 who is ranked in top 100 in ITF juniors.

Congrats Team India! Rushil’s wins are impressive. Under pressure in front of friends and family, he delivered.
Honda is a good player. Watched him for a bit in 2020 at a J5 in Tirana, Albania. He was 14 back then and did have very good foot speed and movement like most Japanese players do.
Good things to look forward to from this crop of juniors.

Re: ITF Team Juniors (u16 Davis/Fed Cup, u14 World Jun. Tennis)
This week our under 14 girls in Asia Oceania qualifiers for world junior tennis.
We started with 2 easy 3-0 wins over Singapore and Hongkong. But, the tough part begins now. We play Korea in final group match tomorrow to decide group topper. Korea too has won matches against Singapore and Hongkong. A win tomorrow will mean easier match in QF against one of Thailand, Uzbekistan or Srilanka, a loss would mean tougher QF against Kazakhstan, Australia or Japan.
4 teams qualify here for world group. So, all quarter final winners would go thru to world group.

Re: ITF Team Juniors (u16 Davis/Fed Cup, u14 World Jun. Tennis)
We lost to Korea 0-3. Looks one sided scoreline but it was actually a close match. After our # 2 Sai Janavi lost in straight sets against Korean #2, our #1 Aishwarya Jadhav lost to Korean #1 in a close match 4-6 in third set and then we gave a walkover in inconsequential doubles match.
We get Kazakhstan for QF which is somewhat lucky. Japan or Australia would have been too tough. If we cannot beat Kazakhstan than we do not deserve to be there.

Re: ITF Team Juniors (u16 Davis/Fed Cup, u14 World Jun. Tennis)
Our girls team finished fourth. Lost to strong Australian team in the SF and lost a close 1-2 match against Korea for third place. So, our #1 Aishwarya Jadhav avenged her earlier group defeat and beat Korea #1 easily 64 61 today but our #2 lost in straight sets and they lost the doubles too. Aishwarya had only 2 losses this week against Australia and Korea which she avenged later. So, she does seem to have some talent.
Anyway, good that these girls will get an opportunity to go and play in world group. If we can get a stronger #2 player we can be competitive there.

Re: ITF Team Juniors (u16 Davis/Fed Cup, u14 World Jun. Tennis)
This week last of the junior qualifying competitions take place for the boys under 14.
Our boys were surprisingly not even seeded in top 8 this week but came up with an easy win over 8th seeds Uzbekistan 3-0 in first match, lost a close one 1-2 against second seeds Japan ( very good win by our #1 Tanushh Ghildyal against Japanese #1 ) and then won 2-1 against Jordan today ( this time Tanussh lost but our #2 and #3 Aditya Mor and Arnav Paparkar saved the day for us.
So, we finish second in the group and will meet Korea in all important QF tomorrow. Korea topped group A with a win over Australia, So, this is going to be tough for our boys. 4 teams qualify for world group. So, all winners in QF will go thru.
