Re: Indian Women's Cricket
India won Asia cup by crushing Sri Lanka in the finals. They won by 177 runs (IND 260 for 7 wickets, SL 83 all out 35.3 overs). During the tournament, Jhulan Goswami reached career milestone of 100 ODI wickets and Mithali Raj reached 3000 ODI runs.
Hope that the achievement of Indian women don't get completely ignored because of all the excitement over IPL.

BCCI declared cash prize of Rs. 5 lacs for every member of the team ... President Pratibha Patil also congratulated the team for their 4th consecutive Asia Cup win.

Re: Indian Women's Cricket
Jhulan Goswami has been appointed the captain of the Indian women's cricket team. She replaces Mithali Raj who pays the price for India's poor performance in the recent tour of England. I don't think this change is going to make any difference. What we need is to provide our Indian women with more exposure to playing in different conditions -- blaming the captain for poor performances is the easy route.

Re: Indian Women's Cricket
Putting my parochial hat on. Given that W. Bengal has not produced that many cricketers to play for India in the male's version of the game, only Sourav Ganguly and Pankaj Roy had meaningful careers, it is interesting to see that Jhulan Goswami, Rumeli Dhar, and, (I will go out on a limb and include) the Bangali English Isa Guha are in the top six bowlers per the rating lists, and, the leggie, young Priyanka Roy is in the World Cup 2009 XI. These four would make a solid bowling lineup in the women's game. Dhar and Goswami are reasonable bats too. So, what is Goswami's nickname? didi? --- well, maybe not, since she is quite young.

Harmanpreet wins player of the year at the WBBL in Australia. article
The BCCI should:
(a) start a women's IPL
(b) allow any men's player to play in any league around the world in order to get our players habituated with pitches abroad
Sourav himself played in English county cricket. Do it Sourav. Do it.

Re: Indian Women's Cricket
Well said Prasen.
I don't understand why the BCCI has done neither. They both make logical sense. I understand that a women's IPL may not rake in the moolah but just seems like the correct thing to do and who knows, if its marketed well, may yet be revenue neutral.
Allowing our players to play elsewhere will likely help unearth some talents. Our primary players may not have the time to indulge in it, but I suspect players like a Rahane may get an offer at some T20 league.

Agree. On the second point, I think we need to do this thoughtfully . We don’t want players getting burned out (already happening). Set some rules as to how many games they can play in a year. Guys like Ambati Rayudu and Dhoni(who have retired from intl cricket or not in reckoning) should be allowed to play . Potentially T20 specialist should be allowed to participate. There should be no restrictions to players if they are not part of national set up in any of the formats.prasen9 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 24, 2021 11:37 pm Harmanpreet wins player of the year at the WBBL in Australia. article

Re: Indian Women's Cricket
Is WBBL profitable? If it is then I am sure WIPL would be more profitable comparatively.
I know that most of the Australian players are professional cricketers now. I think there should be similar thing in India. They should see that there is a direct link between the rewards and their performance. Basically BCCI needs to invest in it. There were at least some sponsors for India-Australia series and WBBL so I am sure it will be commercially viable. BCCI needs to invest some efforts and money.

That is why I think some sort change may bring in more eyeballs. Women cricket would be new thing. Also I think India need to win some major trophy. May be it can be promoted amongst women.

Re: Indian Women's Cricket
That can be in the contract of contracted BCCCI players. But, BCCI blocks even the next rung who don't get much cricket.Kumar wrote: ↑Thu Dec 02, 2021 8:05 pmAgree. Yes, but they are afraid people will retire and become mercenaries. My point is if they want to do that, let them.Guys like Ambati Rayudu and Dhoni(who have retired from intl cricket or not in reckoning) should be allowed to play . Re: Indian Women's Cricket
Terrific victory for the Indian women over England in the semifinals of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Mandhana played a brilliant innings (reaching 50 off 23 balls) and India won by 4 runs (Sneha Rana successfully defending 14 runs in the final over). Congratulations to the Indian women's team for making the CWG final, where they play Australia for the gold.

Re: Indian Women's Cricket
Ladies are doing same as Men's, getting hammered in big games. 2017 WC final, 2020 T20WC final and now gold medal match in CWG. Its ok, ladies deserve praise for reaching finals of these events, as infrastructure is not totally developed yet in Women's cricket.

Re: Indian Women's Cricket
India men were the favourites and lost knockout matches.
India women were the underdogs and lost finals.
Exactly the same
