When I said that I had though that this guy can double up as a devopment officer. But, I now realise that it may be difficult to do that. On the other hand, identification & devlopment of talent could also be issue in recent years as very few juniors have come up even to ITF top 100 junior level in last 2-3 years. But, I am not sure if one coach sitting in Delhi & travelling around for some time can do much about unless he has a team fo coaches under him around India. We will be clear what he will do only after we know a bit more details about how AITA plans to use him. But, I would still say that this is better than having nothing so far. A foreign coach has always done better for us then other Indians ( be it Cricket/ Hockey or any other sport.)

This is a nice article on Asian junior & under 18 national champion , 16 year old Snehadevi Reddy -

Success at sixteen

She won the under 18 claycourt title last week. Good to see her recovering for personal tragedy as mentioed in the article & start performing again.

India's 4 best under 14 players will get an opportunity to play at Wimbledon later this year as part of this project by the Wimbledon Foundation & AITA -

Indian winners complete their Road to Wimbledon dream

This kid who won the boys title, Adil Kalyanpur from Bangalore is someone to watch out for. Last month he won the second leg of ITF Asian under 14 championships and overall stood second with 3 Koreans finishing in top 4 along with ( all of whom he beat in the second leg.)

All these under 14 kids will be competing for Asia-Oceania qualifiers for world junior championships to be held in Delhi for 2 weeks starting from April 21. So, we will know how they stand against best of their age from Asia-Oceania.

Like Siddhanth Banthia did last year, the Indians won title for both junior boys and juniors girls under 14 titles at Road to Wimbledon with Sacchitt Sharma and Mahak Jain winning the titles.

A day to remember for Sacchitt, Mahak

Yes, last year they publicised last year that the winner will get next year's wimbledon junior wild card but boys winner Siddharth Banthia never got to play this year. This year they are not even saying that in any of the articles. So, it appears this " road to Wimbledon" is only a chance for these boys/girls a chance to play on Wimbledon grass in this tournament.

I was looking at some some old posts in here. We all know where Sumit is at now but whatever happened to Basil Khuma? He had some really impressive results at the 2011 orange bowl (beat Michael Mhoh who is #3 on the ITF list now).

I was curious and looked up Basil's whereabouts online and he seems to be at the IMG academy in Florida. He is ranked #661 on the ITF list whereas Sumit is #35. Another example of how the junior rankings and promise shown at a young age not (yet) translating as they age up...

Gautam, Basil Khuma is now mostly competing on mens tour. He is already ranked there and got a nice win over 904th ranked Kazakh player today. I read a few days back him also playing and winning in some AITA tournaments.

Nothing outstanding really but at least he has not disappeared totally . He is only 17 and therefore, doing well on pro tour is still very much possible.
