Everytime someone experiences problem with the site (can't get in, slow down, etc.) it would be nice if you can note the time (in IST please) and report it later on this thread. I am sure that will help Dhruv debug the problem.

My theory is this: "Overloaded web server".
Anytime something significant happens in INDIA - especially any tennis related news, people throng to Sports India web site for the the latest scores and /or "expert" comments from forum members.

You might have 1300 registered members in this forum. But I am positive that probably 10 times that many people (or more) are aware of this forum and will likely contribute to the load on web server.

In the last few days:
0. some negative comments on the chennai organisers - Pat Cash issue, wild card issue, MB not playing, etc. - posted in this forum
1. Rohan's 4 consecutive wins
2. PA's 1st round win
3. HM's 2-1 record

Pure speculations:
A) I believe all of the slowing down happened when people where eagerly waiting for the latest scores/results - 6pm IST to 11pm IST??!!

B) In the next few days, all of the following will lead to increased server problems?!
1. Sania's matches in Hong Kong
2. Aus Open related news - Sania, PA, Rohan, HM etc.
3. Usual LP, MB news

cheers,
-kujo

Don't you notice that there are too many inactive users in this site. Shouldn't we try to clean it up. Like see who's been inactive for 5 months and then delete their account if they have no posts.

People with posts can stay. But with no posts should be deleted.

The inactive users do not contribute to the daily web server load. They might occupy some space in the background (in the database), but that is okay.

In fact in one of the other posts by Dhruv, he actually encouraged people to register even if they don't intend to post!! I can't remember the exact post though, or I would post the link to it...

It is good for the forum to have a large number of registered users?! :)

Like Kujo said...I don't see how inactive users slows the site down. :kookoo:

The speed seems to have improved now. It was really slow in the morning (i.e around 3 PM GMT).

Dhruv - Are you planning to change the servers ? Is there any specific problem with awesomedns.com ?

The site was down for a few hours. Did you make any changes Dhruv ? It's quite fast now.

Just an update. Have been trying out a few optimisations over the past 2-3 days but am unsure how effectove they will be. Also have started discussions to move to a faster machine if the need arises. Just keep me updated as to how fast/slow access is along with the time. I have been more offline than online for a few months so things had slipped a bit.

Cheers,

Dhruv
