Rushmi Chakravarthi thread...
Rushmi Chakravarthy (at #374 on the WTA ranking list) is still India's #2 woman tennis player even at the age of 27 (she will be 28 on October 9th this year). She has had a career-high ranking of #310 in singles (achieved last September) and #252 in doubles.
One reason why we haven't had a thread for her in the past is that she earns almost all her points in India (where she is really a very potent player) but plays inexplicably poorly by comparison overseas. Nonetheless, with her high ranking -- and her continuing ability to beat such excellent players as Isha Lakhani and Megha Vakharia (as demonstrated this week at the Mumbai Challenger) -- she has more than "earned" her own thread here.

Rushmi Chakravarthi thread...
Oops ... Already added my comment in Sai's thread for not opening thread of Rushmi ...
But is that necessary of opening thread for fading stars??? I never doubting their capabilities and what they earned and achieved ... But my question is starting their thread so late in their career which is in process of winding up ....... is still confusing.
Jaydeep.

Rushmi Chakravarthi thread...
Damn, it was about time for us to open threads for Sai and Rushmi ..
It was one of those inexplicable things that we never really found a right time to start a thread.
I suppose Rushmi and Sai have always been around and doing their thing, that familiarity bred laziness, though not contempt ..

Rushmi Chakravarthi thread...
Jaydeep, if they are capable of making Challenger QFs, they are still quality players. And Rushmi reached her career-high ranking in September 2004, so we can't conclude that she is fading just yet. Her current ranking is nothing to sniff at. I fully agree with Jay's comment...familiarity has bred a touch of ennui on our part, but there is no room at all for contempt or indifference.

Rushmi Chakravarthi thread...
Jaydeep -- unlike the threads for upcoming players, which are started to keep the discussion on them, to hype them, to encourage them, etc, the threads for RC and SJ are different.
They don't need us to talk about them at all.. They are perfectly fine with their own motivation towards their careers.
These threads, in my view, are mostly to simply celebrate them and their attitude towards their sport and career.
Look at it this way - do you all remember Rushmi and Sai NOT being there for an Indian pro event? Injury, no injury, form, no form, money, no money, 5k satellite, 10K satellite, challenger, WTA qualies, whatever .. but they are ALWAYS there. And they have been doing it for what, some 7 or 8 years .. That is some kind of focus and spirit.
Keep going Sai, Rushmi!

Rushmi Chakravarthi thread...
I was disappointed by Rushmi's loss to Chan.....
But she has made a good fight and has done justice to her first final appearance...
Hope she moves on with this momentum into the Fed cup......
I think she definitely will do well in the Fed cup..
