Re: Shikha Uberoi thread ...

As expected Hsu turned out to be a tough nut to crack. Alexandra Stevenson is going to be even tougher. I remember her being called as the next big thing in American tennis some 10 years back, but what a fall for her from there!! She is no more the next big thing but she is playing solid top-250 type tennis. Barring an injury to Stevenson (which is very much a possibility), it is going to be very very tough for Shikha Uberoi.

Shed your relentless negativity, young man. It does you and this forum no good whatsoever. Shikha did well to compete in the first set, but couldn't keep up in the second:

Alexandra Stevenson (USA) d. (LL) Shikha Uberoi (IND) 75 60

Shikha beat the top-seed in the first round of qualifying, so she certainly deserved to be in the main draw. To draw Alexandra Stevenson (the daughter of basketball great Julius Erving) who was once thought to be the next big thing in US women's tennis, was a stroke of bad luck. The gradual comeback continues (for Shikha, as well as for Alexandra!).

I think if Shikha plays for india in the CMG then we will have best chance. But i dont know what is the stupid govt policy in this regard. At the moment she is playing far better than Poojashree & Rushmi.

We have to admire Shikha's tenacity not to give up, despite so much adversity in the last few years. Most players who had had success at the highest level like her would have given up long back. Go Shikha. We ae still behind you...

Yes, she is to be commended to sticking it out and still trying to win. I hope she won her 1st round match today. If she did I will try to go watch her tomorrow since I am in Raleigh.

Jay,

Do you know if Neha Uberoi has quit playing tennis? I have not seen her enter any tournaments. Any news on her that you might have?

Our resident expert on the Uberoi sisters amr090 has been AWOL for a long time. I hope he is still around and just busy. Anyway, this is the Uberoi sisters' website and I just checked it after more than a year. It seems it is still current (I only checked entries in Neha's section). Neha's info is actually in Shikha's section and she just started updating her blog. It seems that Shikha's section has not been updated for a while.

According to Neha's blog, she is back at Princeton to finish her degree after a six-year hiatus. She went on a sort of tennis trip to Fiji but doesn't indicate whether she's still serious about pursuing a tennis career.

Excellent run by Shikha & scorelines in her wins are impressive specially in her win over last year's Orange bowl winner in Q2. The way she is playing here, he can also fight on even terms against top 200 player in her next round.
