Thanks mugu...great job..not sure how you did it but I couldn't get even a single record!

Let me take some time to compare these timings with the university timings here...something that would keep me busy today :)

Mr. V. K. Pahuja, a swimming coach in Delhi, brings out the only comprehensive stats compilation in India, called `statistical bulletin'. He releases it every year on June 23, the death anniversary of Sanjay Gandhi.
Much of the stuff I have posted is courtesy Pahuja's bulletin. Of course, I have also incorporated a few details from newspapers/magazines; the results for example.

That will be somwhat of a waste of time. US university standards are world class while India is very poor in swimming. Won't be surprised if a lot of the women timings at the US level (whether national or university) are likely better than the winning times in India's national championship.

I understand that. I am just trying to figure out what timings would help you get a sports scholarship to a university here. I am not even sure if univs here grant swim scholarships but it is something I am interested in finding out. Got to find the time though with my new job and all :) No more slacking at work!

So is India up for winning any swimming medal in the upcoming 2006 Asian games?

Veerdhawal Khade qualifies for Olympics by clipping off 1.77 sconds of what he clocked at national games & his timing is actually better then gold medal winning time at World youth swimming championships.

He is the real deal.  Those of you who may not have read about him, please check the Indian National Games 2007 thread...

Mittal Champions Trust is looking to take him on, but he still needs corporate support to manage all the training expenses abroad

Also former US Olympic coach Richard Quick terms him “phenomenal for his age and definitely an Olympic winning prospect in the future”.

my only hope is that khade is actually 15 years old and not lying about his age....

Khade was born on August 29, 1991 and is about 15 1/2 years old.  His timing of 1 min 52.41 sec in 200 meters is outstanding and I am not surprised that he improved his mark because he had tougher competition at World Swimming Championships in Melbourne.

Here is a link to the top 100 times recorded by US swimmers in the 15-16 year age group for 200 meters.  Khade's time would have placed him 18th in the all-time best list.

Edit:

I checked the official timings from the World Swimming Championship website and Khade finished 6th out of 8 swimmers in heat # 8.  There were 15 heats and the swimmers are put in various heats according to their personal best times.  The best swimmers were in heats #13, 14 and 15.
