I couldn't watch today's game. Can anyone who has watched it live or later comment on how Saina played today? We could base our expectations for tomorrow's SF based on today's performance... :D
you can find it on youtube bwf channel.
BTW... BWF is a real mess....The whole superseries finals is almost a mess now.
1)firstly who the heck would pay fine just because they did not play tournament because of injury. Here, players have to pay $5200 if they doesnot play in the superseries finals
i.e,about 28lac rupees.Just to avoid fine players like Lee chong wei,and two other doubles pairs...one WD and one MD pair did not withdraw.may be SAINA also did not withdraw due to that reason. But the funny thing is the MD, pair is shown yellow card today because the injured player is not playing to his potential lol
2)The chinese continue their throwing of matches(but ofcourse card is not shown here).Today the MD olympic champions has thrown their match(ofcourse as per calculations by winning one set) so as to avoid another chinese pair in the semifinals.

didn't I say this - saina might actually be playing inspite of not being fully fit because it is mandatory.

yes, the Chinese tactics are quite irritating indeed and she is running into one tomorrow

From 10-11 down Li won again 10 points in a row to set up a lead of 20-11, she won the last game 21-11...

lot of unforced errors from both the players but seems like Li had it under control and could up the tempo whenever needed....losing the first game from 20-16 up proved to be too costly for Saina in the end....

hope she gets deserving rest and recovers from injury if any....

I would say big lost opportunity for Saina to scored upset win over Olympics champion Chinese Xuerui Li.

Yes. Somehow he/she got through the moderators' critical eye on keeping out those who only post links to their pages. I have removed his/her seven posts so far (all of which had links to his blog and no discussion) and ban the user. Jay

Advice to Saina from Prakash.

Saina Nehwal has to balance training, competition and rest: Prakash Padukone
"One of the key challenges for anyone in any sport who has reached the top is to learn to manage his/her training, competition and rest and recovery. It's important that you find the right balance."

"Sometimes to maintain your ranking you may go and play when you are not fully fit. This number of tournaments was not there in our time. We used to play three tournaments, come back to rest for 3-4 weeks and even if there were tournaments we didn't play. The tournament you play, you should play well. That should be her's (Saina) and anybody's focus -- to play a limited number of tournaments, but play them well."

BWF World Superseries Finals 2013, KL

Saina lost a close group match to Japanese Mitani, the lowest ranked player in the group... :-(
Although she lost the 2nd game 22-24, she never had a match point of her own..., but she had a lead of 19-18 in the 2nd game and 16-11 in the 3rd before losing...

[GroupB-1] Saina NEHWAL (IND,6) l. Minatsu MITANI (JPN,13) 21-19 22-24 19-21

Now, she has a tough road ahead having to beat Li Xuerui tomorrow be in contention for a SF spot...

[GroupB-2] Saina NEHWAL (IND,6) v. Xuerui LI (CHN,1) Thu 12/12/2013
[GroupB-3] Saina NEHWAL (IND,6) v. Yeon Ju BAE (KOR,7) Fri 12/13/2013

[GroupB-2] Saina NEHWAL (IND,6) l. Xuerui LI (CHN,1) 9-21 14-21

Yeon Ju Bae has beaten Mitani and left Saina a small chance to sneak through and that can happen if Li Xuerui beats Mitani and Saina beats Yeon Ju Bae in straight games tomorrow... :goodluck:
