2005 Nationwide Tour

Post by PKBasu »

Swamy says that Arjun Atwal isn't planning to play much on the Nationwide Tour this year. He plans to use his 18 starts on the PGA tour. And when he isn't playing PGA events, he plans to play on the European PGA tour, for which of course he is still eligible this year (because of his 2003 Malaysian Open win). Unfortunately, he won't be able to come to the Malaysian Open, as he expects to be playing a PGA tournament that week.

AA only needs to win once!!!

Post by V Krishnaswamy »

You know PKB, even though he told me he will probably not go on Nationwide, my guess if he is caught in a situation with nothing to do for a week or two, he might just turn up at NW. He did say that he will try and Monday qualify for PGA events, when he doesn;t get in.,
Anyway, all I can say, he only needs to win once on PGA not to bother abt NW!!! And that he can do in the first few of his 18 starts.

The Monday qualifier is a good concept if one can qualify or the NW Tour event is nearby. Daniel made it into the field atleast once last year via the Monday qualifier.

The NW Tour events are held in "smaller" markets for air travel and often do not have direct flights from big cities (sites of PGA Tour events). If the Monday qualifier does not pan out then Tuesday will be spent in travelling to the NW Tour site and that leaves only Wednesday to get used to the golf course.

Arjun has the talent to win on the PGA Tour but there are so many quality players each week that winning is really hard.

True Bhushan, Arjun should chalk out proper plan .. And he is having helping hand from Daniel and also very good example of Daniel ... So why he is not concentrating on NW more than European PGA tour ... Becoz in end he always tell everybody that PGA Tour is his final goal.

I think 18 events are actually probably enough for him to stay in touch with US courses. I find nothing wrong with him attempting the EPGA events whenever he has the time -- especially as his eligibility for EPGA only runs through this year.

I think that it is a good idea for Arjun to play on the EPGA Tour until Qatar Open since it is impossible to get a direct entry into the PGA tournaments in the early part of the PGA season for players ranked in the 126-150. Once the biggies like Tiger, Ernie, Phil, etc have had their share of success on the PGA Tour in the first six months, they start going abroad to make "easy" money. That is when the players ranked 126-150 start getting into the field of PGA tournaments.

The media keeps talking about 18 events that Arjun can enter in the 2005 PGA season. I think that it will require Arjun to play week after week without any rest, wait until Wednesdays to see if he can enter some events because someone does not show up at the last minute, and play some Monday qualifiers, etc.

How many players ranked in the 126-150 range earned the next year's PGA Tour card simply by playing the limited PGA schedule? I will have to do some research to find the answer but if someone alreadty knows it then please share it with us. My guess is that rarely has someone under those circumstances made it into the PGA.

Vijay/Daniel/Arjun at Shell Houston Open

Post by mohitb272 »

Hi
I am new to this forum though I am keeping track of our 'Indian connection' players. Arjun and Vijay came up with decent performances today but Daniel failed to make the cut. Hope Arjun finishes in the top 10 and makes decent money to get a 2006 PGA card. Would love to read live comments about the weekend game of Arjun and Vijay.
