Anand looks to be going full steam ahead towards the end. Too late anyway, though he has salvaged some of his reputation in the last two rounds. A brilliant victory with Black over Leko in the 12th round puts him in joint second with Svidler

Suddenly Anand seems to be on rampage. Wish he had shown same form earlier. Now he has a chance of finishing 2nd.
Nothing great really for player of Anand's calibere . He had his best chance of winning World chamoinship in absence of Kasparov.

Hope Anand does finish strong and take 2nd place. It is quite an achievement being the second best player in the World although Anand has the ability to be the best. None the less we should recognize true world class performances since we have very few of those.....

The FIDE World Chess Cup takes place 26th November - 18th December 2005 in Khanty Mansyisk, Russia.
Pentala Harikrishna, Krishnan Saiskiran and Surya Sekhar Ganguly playing.

Seven (7) rounds of matches, comprising two (2) games per round, with the winners progressing to the next round. From round four (4) the players will continue playing until places 1 to 16 are decided.
First round:
In first round, Indian national champion Ganguly eliminated USA National Champion Hikaru Nakamura by winning both the games (2-0). Nakamura is rated around 100 points above Ganguly.
Sasikiran advanced to second round with 1.5-0.5 score over Iljushin, Alexei (RUS).
Harikrishna is tied 1-1 after 2 games and will play tie-breaker tomorrow.

Thanks Indian for starting this World Chess Cup thread ... Yes Ganguly managed biggest upset of the tournament considering Nakamura rated as one of the favourites.
Sasi also moves into second round ... Hopefully Hari will make it all win record for Indians in first round.
