So, someone should commit a shameful act but people should not speak out about politicisation. They feel slighted and they should absolutely speak out. She is one of our greatest sportsmen ever and deserves the highest award. Those politiciking or ignorant enough to keep her out should be called out in no uncertain terms.

Indian team announced for Shotgun World Cup at Cyprus.

First world cup of the year began 2 days back in Buenos Aires, Argentina . I see a somewhat depleted field here. Powerhouse China is here but not Korea and some of the good European nations have also not sent a team.

Yesterday, in womens 50M rifle 3 positions, Sift Kaur Samra won the gold. She topped the qualifiers with a score of 590. However, in the final she was dead last after kneeling and prone and made a remarkable comeback to get from 8th to 1st in standing position.

Sift has been our most consistent shooter from since 2 years before Paris Olympics, won a gold at 2022 Asian games. Was one of our most likely medal prospects for Paris but then fell away badly in qualification there with a score of 575 which must be her lowest score in years.
Good to see that she has not totally lost her confidence after that setback ( like Jitu Rai, Saurabh Chaudhari) and has started the next olympics cycle strong.

She was our only representative in final of this event, but before that we had 3 men in final of mens 50M rifle 3 positions and veteran Chain Singh won bronze and Aishwaryi Pratap Singh Tomar was 4th.

Before that, we had 2 in mens 10M air pistol final but none could medal. Saurabh Chaudhary is back in the team but could not reach the final.

Today, Manu Bhakar will be in action in womens 25M Pistol event,

2 Indians- Manu Bhaker and Esha Singh made it to the final of Womens 25M Pistol, Manu with a score of 584 and Esha with a 579.

But, Manu did not have a great final and faltered after a good start and got eliminated in 6th place. However, after a not so good start, Esha Singh had 3 series of perfect 5's to move up and eventually won a silver among the Chinese who gold and bronze.

Esha is only 20, she was also part of Paris Olympics team along with Manu but did not have good qualifying. She also won silver in Asian games. So, Esha is a very good finals shooter but needs to improve her qualifying scores, scores like 579 will not get her to final at elite fields which this world cup is not.

Manu will get to the final anywhere, she is too good in qualifying but final she is up and down although in the olympics she stepped it up in the finals in both events when it mattered.

Rudranksh Patil wins gold in men's 10M Air rifle event in Buenos Aires world cup. Rudranksh was a world champion 2-3 years back, than lost form a bit and could not get into Paris olympics team. Great to see that like Sift he is back in form.

Arjun Babuta who narrowly missed a medal at Paris topped the qualifiers ( Rudranksh was second) but faltered in the final and finished 7th.

Third gold for us at Buenos Aires world cup as 18 year old Suruchi Phogat. It was superb performance by Suruchi in her first senior assignment. She shot an excellent score of 583 which would have topped the qualifiers at Paris olympics and than beat 3 Chinese shooters who had all won olympic, WC or Asian medals. To do so at 18 shows her potential.

So have the Phogat's switched from wrestling to shooting?

The interesting thing is that we are usually the best in such World Cups, surpassing even China, however when it comes to crunch time in Olympics, we end up far behind the Chinese. Are our shooters that mentally fragile, or do the Chinese step it up when it matters?

We are never ahead of China when they field their best team. This world cup may be an exception because few of our shooters have really done well and won unexpected golds. See for instance last Asian games, we won 7 golds and 22 medals while China won 16 golds and 29 medals. So, they are far ahead.

In olympics, our aim should be to get at least second or third in medal tally which will mean 5-6 medals. I think that is achievable by 2028 olympics and we have made a good start to this olympic cycle at this world cup and discovered some new talent ( Suruchi) or rediscovered form of some who were good earlier but could not deliver at Paris ( Esha,Rudranksh).

22 y/o Vijayveer Sidhu won gold in 25m rapid pistol. That's another gold medal. This is very good performance by Indian team.

I agree, we can win 5-6 medals in shooting. Same i would say for wrestling. Together both Shooting and wrestling can fetch India 10 medals with some good luck in 2028.

One more silver medal in 10m rifle mixed event. That's makes total medal tally at 7 (4 G, 2 S, 1 B).
