I hope he is someone who can nurture some Indian junior to some success. Something which Mahesh and Leander have failed to do. Mahesh at least tried in his early retirement days by part funding Sumit, Karman etc. But, Leander seems to have totally vanished from the tennis scene since he retired.
Wonderful. This is how Bops is, which is why I have been reluctant to criticize him, even though there were many cases where the forum has criticized him -- going back to playing (or not playing) doubles with MB, LP, etc, and recently about his not playing with RamK.

His advise to Rethin Pranav to run 3 km every day was fantastic. I had always thought that running is what our youngsters need to do enough of. Stamina is sometimes mental too. When you know how much running you have done, you won't think of getting tired in the third set. I remember how dedicated Somdev was about his daily running, when he stayed with me as a 16-17 year old.

More importantly, it seems pretty clear that Vihaan really has India in the plans, rather than USA. That is great, considering that he is the #1 player in the US at his age (I think he was top-3 in USTA ranks even before the ITF run in India). His parents' making him available for newspaper reports, and getting close to Bops etc are good signs.

My advice to tennis/badminton players is to run at least 5K 4-5 times a week. That becomes 10K for football and hockey players.

Rohan and Ebden lost in second round at Monte Carlo.

At Monte Carlo ATP Masters 1000 (Clay)

[QF] (7) Rohan Bopanna (IND) / Mathew Ebden (AUS) l. Kevin Krawietz (GER) /Tim Puetz (GER) 46 36

Playing their first tournament together on clay. Hope they get their bearings on clay soon. Bops had SF points to defend at Monte Carlo. So, he drops a few points. Still at #13 in live rankings though.

It is always nice when doubles specialists beat singles players teaming up in big events.

Bops and Ebden pull off a big upset win over top ranked pair in the world in Madrid.

At the Madrid ATP Masters 1000,

[QF] (7) Rohan Bopanna (IND)/ Matthew Ebden (AUS) d. (1) Wesley Koolhof (NED) / Neal Skupski (GBR) 63 62

Next,

[SF] (7) Rohan Bopanna (IND)/ Matthew Ebden (AUS) vs. (8) Santiago Gonzalez (CJHI) /Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA)

This is a match-up between top 2 teams in the calendar year team race rankings. In short 2 hottest teams in the tour this year. 2 weeks back Bops-Ebden beat Gonzalez and Roger-Vasselin in straight sets in Barcelona. Hope it is a repeat of that.
