Well, no singles points for Sunil and Ajay in the 3-week trip, but Mustafa had a decent win and Rishi gets some reward for all the qualifying efforts as a lucky loser!

(4) Dan Willman (NZL,449) d. Sunil-Kumar Sipaeya (IND,536), 75 63
(5) Stephane Bohli (SUI,463) d. Ajay Ramaswami (IND,617), 62 62
(7) Mustafa Ghouse (IND,518) d. (Q) Hendri Susilo Pramono (INA,958), 75 64
(LL) Rishi Sridhar (IND,852) d. Toshiaki Sakai (JPN,704), 61 26 33 (retd.)

Next round matchsups:

[R2] (7) Mustafa Ghouse (IND,518) vs (WC) Rob Cheyne (NZL,1038)
[R2] (LL) Rishi Sridhar (IND,852) vs (8) Jan Minar (CZE,525)

Jacco/Rishi qualified into the doubles main draw - so a 3rd Indian team in there.

[R1] (Q) Jaco Mathew/ Rishi Sridhar (IND) vs Hendri Susilo Pramono/ Febi Widhiyanto (INA)

Congrats to Sunitha Rao, who won her 3rd and final qualifier to enter the main draw at the $50K Mesa tourney. :D

Rao d Baltacha 64 76(6)

In R1, she'll play WC Teryn Ashley (187). Unless she's tired from beating three top 200 players in a row, Sunitha should win this one without too much difficulty.

Well after my little outburst the other day the Indian players go and win a couple of matches :bounce: . Now couldn't they have done this before  . Another win in NZ and now Mustafa is in the QF's :bounce:

7 GHOUSE Mustafa (IND,518) d. WC CHEYNE Rob (NZL,1038) 6/4 3/6 7/6(3)
In the other R2 match
(8) Jan Minar (CZE,525) d. (LL) Rishi Sridhar (IND,852) 6/4 6/4

In the doubles R1

SIPAEYA Sunil Kumar/WILLINSKY Scott (IND/JAM) d. SUN Peng/WANG JR Yu (CHN) 6/2 7/6(5)
Hendri Susilo Pramono/ Febi Widhiyanto (INA) d. (Q) Jaco Mathew/ Rishi Sridhar (IND) 6/7(5) 6/3 6/2
WC HUNT Alistair/SHORTALL James (NZL) d. GHOUSE Mustafa/RAMASWAMI Ajay(IND) 6/3 7/6(4)

So all in all I'm happy, I'll take singles R2 wins over doubles R1 losses any day.

Good to see Mustafa Ghouse finally begin to live up to his ranking, after 6-8 months of surprisingly poor singles performances. Well done -- and let's try to make the final here...
Sunil Kumar has been the big disappointment in NZ, but this is a useful learning experience for him. Let's just hope it doesn't demoralise him too much.
Time for them to get back to Mumbai and pick up some more points in the home Futures.

Well Mustafa's run came to end in NZ today with a loss to the #3 seed.
#3 STEGMANN Dirk (RSA,433) d. #7 GHOUSE Mustafa (IND,518) 61 62 :(

Also the challenge in the doubles ended with SKS falling in R2.
#4 DU RANDT Johan RSA/WHITEHOUSE Wesley (RSA) d. SIPAEYA Sunil Kumar/WILLINSKY Scott (IND/JAM) 61 64

Other than that besides Rushmi and Rohan's doubles matches (and ofcourse LP)thats it for the Indian challenge this week. Still waiting for Sunitha Rao's result though.

Well, Sunitha couldn't keep it up her heroics for another round -- but a fantastic showing nevertheless knocking off three Top 200 players in a row.

WC Tery Ashley d. q-Sunitha Rao 6-3 4-6 6-1

Draw for Megha at the Cairo-3 satellite

8 BELLER, Verena (GER) vs Q POUS, Laura (ESP)
VAKHARIA, Megha (IND) vs Q MINELLA, Mandy (LUX)
Q TAMAELA, Elise (NED) vs Q HOCH, Eva (AUT)
Q RUSTIGNOLI, Nancy (ITA) vs 4 O'RIAIN, Elsa (IRL)

Qualifiers are never easy, and she has a very tough girl to play in the next round too ..

She is not in the doubles draw this week.

Nice win by Rajeev Ram (USA) in the 1st round of qualies at the ATP Miami tourney! :D

(WC)Rajeev Ram (USA) d. (21)Ricardo Mello (BRA) 4-6 7-6(6) 6-0

Excellent comeback! Looks like the rain delay at 5-5 in the 2nd set really helped Rajeev to re-focus.

He's got a much tougher Q2 opponent in (5)Jean-Rene Lisnard (FRA) though...

Nice win by Rajeev Ram today. After winning one round at the Joplin Challenger in February I had not heard of him play anywhere until he showed up in Miami. I wonder if he was getting some coaching in the meantime. I feel that he has potential to go far. All the best to Rajeev.

Rajeev is now playing college tennis for the top-ranked University of Illinois. Since enrolling in mid-January as a freshman, he is 12-0 (!) and is now up to #14 in the country in singles. VERY impressive stuff from the youngster! :notworthy:
