We might have our next Olympic class weightlifter After Mirabai in Koyel Bar. The 17 year old set YWRs in the 53kg in home conditions at the recent CW championships.
Two considerations - home conditions can allow for more spinach even in international meets, and there is no 53 or 55kg at the Olympics anymore (but this keeps changing so who knows).
Breakdancing and other nonsense are more worthy of Olympic consideration than weightlifting of course
Mirabai Chanu won silver at world weightlifting championships in Norway in womens 48 kg with a snatch of 84 kgs and clean/Jerk of 115 kgs- a total of 199 kgs behind North Korean who had a huge total lift of 213 kgs.
Must stay top Chinese are not there at this meet and Romanian who won silver at Paris has gone to higher weight. As for Meerabai she lifted same weight as she did at Paris Olympics ( where she finished 4th) and 3 kg less than what she did at Tokyo olympics where she won silver.
Overall, with this weight when everyone gets back she is likely to finish 4th or so at an olympics unless she gets lucky with North Korean getting banned or something ( as they were at Paris). Anyway, Mirabai herself is now 31 and will be 34 by the time LA Olympics comes along. So, not sure if she will be at her best by that age.
If they keep both 48kg and 53kg, she is in Olympics medal winning form if it happened today.
Both the Romanian and Thai have moved up to 53kg, and I don't see the Chinese sending their weightlifter if DPRK is allowed to send theirs. They are not beating the spinach eating North Koreans.
However, there will only be (as yet undeclared) 6 weight classes at the Olympics, there are 8 at these World championships
