Re: Sports and Performance Enhancing Drugs (Doping)
Bajrang Punia suspended for four years.
He was foolish to refuse and more foolish to admit it in his public statements. He was expecting NADA DCOs to carry a letter of explanation from NADA regarding his complaints!

Re: Sports and Performance Enhancing Drugs (Doping)
I don't condone doping. This post is a thought exercise.
I wonder why athletes cannot do the following. Test a whole bunch of medicines/food in your area and find which ones have the banned chemicals you want to dope with. Then, you eat that regularly and blame the food provider/medicine and can provide quick proof that you got tainted by a source you did not know.
We should call this the Sinner-Siwatek formula for doping and it has been quite successful in being a doping method that hardly gets you sanctioned. Where is the drawback? Is it quite costly to do such tests?

Athlete suspended for four years, but competes again within no time.
Sachin Poswal, a Delhi athlete, was suspended on Dec 27 but managed a new ID and competed again on Dec 29. He seemed to have done it a second time. Earlier too he had done such a trick, but this one was too swift and AFI was apparently caught napping even as it keeps talking about tackling the doping menace.

Is it this easy to orchestrate a second identity for oneself in India... A new name, new dad, and the whole works? I suppose nothing is impossible in incredible IndiaMugundan wrote: Fri Jan 10, 2025 5:02 pm Athlete suspended for four years, but competes again within no time.

Re: Sports and Performance Enhancing Drugs (Doping)
By the way, this interesting article that talks about how there is a new performance supplement that is legal. How many of the weekend warriors would try this?

Fisher is among the many professional runners in recent years to embrace baking soda — known within the sport by its scientific name, sodium bicarbonate, or simply “bicarb” — as a legal means of running faster times than ever

Re: Sports and Performance Enhancing Drugs (Doping)
Kartik Kumar who won the 10,000m silver in the last Asian Games has been caught doping. He had a good concoction of methandienone, clostebol, stanozolol and testosterone in his system when he was tested by USADA on behalf of NADA while training at Colorado Springs.
He trains with Gulveer Singh under US coach Scott Simmons.
The US has been the base for many of the Indian middle and long-distance runners in recent years. I wonder whether Colorado Springs has any particular significance as far as doping is concerned.

As expected, D. P. Manu has been suspended for four years for a steroid offence. What a hype was created when he and Kishore Jena finished along with Neeraj Chopra in the top-6 in the World championships in 2023!

Strange choice of drugs by Kartik Kumar. Your normally expect a distance runner to go for EPO or similar drugs. But nowadays, one has seen steroids being used along with EPO at least by several Indian runners. In Kartik's case, it is steroids alone.

Junior National chief coach accused of aiding athletes to avoid dope testers! (Like many such cases, this would be "sorted out" soon in my view)
