Syndrela Das is a 15-year old up and coming player from Kolkata. She has won the U-15, U-17, and U-19 national titles already. I hope the clock never strikes twelve (midnight).
14-year-old Divyanshi Bhowmick showed maturity beyond her years by withstanding serious pressure from Giorgia Piccolin, fighting back from two games to one down to defeat her Italian opponent 3-2 (13-15, 11-9, 9-11, 11-1, 11-6) in an absorbing round of 48 clash in the Women’s Singles event.
The teenager, ranked No.273 on the ITTF Table Tennis World Rankings, threw out the form books as she outplayed the World No.64, using her speed and lightning reflexes to secure crucial points in the contest, sealing a huge win at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium.
“I feel very good. This is my first WTT Star Contender event and I was just enjoying the moment and not putting too much pressure on myself. I’m looking forward to taking on Shin Yubin next and hope to win as many points.” Divyanshi Bhowmick.
It was another close fight between childhood friends Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee as they faced off in the Women’s Singles. Ayhika, making her second Women’s Singles main draw appearance at WTT Star Contender level, made the most of it with a spirited display against Sutirtha, prevailing 3-2 (11-9, 7-11, 11-8, 8-11, 12-10).
