Tata Steel (Corus) Chess - Masters
Hari (invited) and Adhiban (won Challenger in 2016) are playing the Masters this year...
Adhiban missed a win in the first round against Van Wely and eventually drew the game, lost to Hari in the 2nd round with some inaccurate moves in the endgame, but won against Karjakin with black pieces yesterday and drew with white pieces against So today to be 2.5/6... He briefly went out of Top-100 at the start of the tournament, but came back in after yesterday's win against Karjakin...
Hari won against Adhiban in the 2nd round, lost to So after making inaccurate moves in time trouble. He had good advantage against Woztaszek today, but it looks like going towards a draw now... 2.5/5 so far...

Re: Tata Steel (Corus) Chess - Masters - 2017
Adhiban has been playing very strong. His only blemish so far has been a loss to Hari. After that he has won 3 times. Adhiban beat Karjakin (Remember Karjakin - who challenged Carlsen in the World Championship last year. )
So far, Adhiban's record in this tournament
1 Van Wely 2695 ½ w +0.6 Tata Steel Masters (1) 14.01.2017

Re: Tata Steel (Corus) Chess - Masters - 2017
Adhiban continues to play strong against strong players in this strong tournament. Today he played against Carlsen with black but did not let Carlsen take any advantage and held him for a comfortable draw. Adhiban must be loving Tata Steel Chess as he won the Challenger last time and he has done really well for his rating in the Masters this time. His results updates are:
9 Wei Yi 2706 ½ b
10 Nepomniachtchi 2767 ½ w
11 Carlsen 2840 ½ b
A massive 21.2 rating jum already in this tournament. His next two rounds are against Giri and Rapport.
Harikrishna is having a quiet tournament. Except a win over Adhiban and a loss to tournament leader SO, all his games have been draw. But he is yer to play the two bottom place players in his next two round. A win here could make this tournament fruitful for him with positive increment to his rating points.

Re: Tata Steel (Corus) Chess - Masters - 2017
Adhiban finishes with a win to finish 3rd at the Corus masters. Very impressive debut at a masters level tournament. He will rise to a ELO rating of 2682 now.
Harikrishna with a poor loss to the worst player in the field in Loek van Wely to wrap the tournament up and he will drop 8 points and to #15.
Adhiban appears to like Som, he can't dominate CH level players but is able to hold his own against ATP level players. How much of that is the novelty of his openings remains to be seen though.

Re: Tata Steel (Corus) Chess - Masters - 2018
Four Indians are participating in the 2018 Tata Steel tournament. Anand and Adhiban are playing at the MAster's level, while Vidit and Harika are playing at Challenger level. Vidit is the highest rated and the only 2700+ player in the challenger field. Adhibhan, although lower ranked than Vidit, is playing his second consecutive Masters this year.
Tata Steel Chess wrote:In 2016 the then 23-year old prodigy [Adhiban Baskaran] from India played one of his best tournaments ever, winning the Tata Steel Challengers and thus qualifying for the Tata Steel Masters in 2017. Adhiban shared first place with the strong GM’s Safarli and Dreev, but took first place on tiebreak (mutual result): he had defeated both Safarli and Dreev in the tournament. His first appearance in a top level tournament in 2017 went even better! Probably even much better than Adhiban had expected himself. He shared 3rd place with Aronian and Wei Yi, with the impressive score of 7,5 - 13. He won four games, among others against the then WC-finalist Sergey Karjakin. With his open mind, attractive style and positive approach to everybody (fans, colleagues, organizers, journalists) he gained many new fans and it also brought him the prestigious ‘Gashimov-Award’ for the most sportive player in the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2017. For the organizers of Tata Steel Chess this was a clear reason to invite Adhiban back in the Jubilee Tournament, an invitation he gladly accepted.
Anand made a winning start against a lower ranked player Maxim Matlakov in this tournament, while all other Indians were held on to a drawTata Steel Chess wrote:Vidit Gujrathi
Vidit is one of the many young talents from India. The 23 year old GM already was in Wijk aan Zee in 2017, being the second of Anish Giri. Now it is time to play himself. No doubt that he is the clear favourite in the Challengers, but this is never a guarantee for the first place, which gives the right to play in the Masters in 2019.

Re: Tata Steel (Corus) Chess - Masters - 2018
What a victory for Anand. He beats current world #2 Caruana in the 3rd round and joins Giri in the lead with 2.5 points. However, Adhiban is not having a good tournament as he loses in the battle of lowest rating duo in the field. This is his second loss and puts him in the bottom of the field.
Vidit continues to do well in Challengers and got second consecutive victory. Vidit continues to lead the field jointly with one another player Korobov. Only Harika's match was not decisive as she held on much higher rated L'Ami.
Tomorrow the Indians play against each other in both fields.

Re: Tata Steel (Corus) Chess - Masters
Well, Alireza won his match and pulled up to second place. Last year's winner Anish Giri is leading with 4.5 points in 6 rounds, Alireza #2 and Pragga #3. Gukesh at #5 is also at 3.5 points as is Pragga.

Pragg defeated Gukesh in a blitz playoff to life the title after both lost in the last round. Gukesh lost to Arjun and Pragg to Keymar after a long game. Anyway, congratulations to Pragg for winning the title. News Harikrishna finished 7th, Arjun 10th and Mendonca 13th.

Re: Tata Steel (Corus) Chess - Masters
It really was a crazy final day at the Tata Steel (Corus) chess tournament in the Netherlands. That is boiled down to a contest between two young Indian teenagers was yet another demonstration of just how much India is now dominating chess.

Re: Tata Steel (Corus) Chess - Masters
I think Pragg vs Gukesh is going to be a rivalry for the future with Arjun also thrown into the mix. Similar to Kasparov-Karpov. Pragg and Gukesh are childhood friends. Hope this intense rivalry doesn't lead to a split in their friendship.

Re: Tata Steel (Corus) Chess - Masters
Pragg was a second to Gukesh during the WC. I don't think it will.
Gukesh is now world #3, Arjun #5, Pragg #7. Chidambaram #22 and Gujrati #25. Hari #32.
Aravindh, Vidit, and Anand are participating in the Bundesliga in Feb. I like Aravindh and want him to do well. A bit underrated but he has improved a lot. Ditto with Vidit. I guess our top-10 do not want to play in order to rest after Tata Steel and not to geopardize their ratings although Firoujza, So, and Nepo are playing there too and they are top-10 or 11. Good luck to the next tier Indians at the Bundesliga.

Re: Tata Steel (Corus) Chess - Masters
You are right, of course. I got Pragg and Hari mixed up. And, yes, Gukesh will play the Freestyle whatever Carlsen is conjuring up. Let us see how it goes.
