Re: BWF Tournaments Jan/Feb 2025
Meanwhile at the India Open the following have reached the 2nd round: Sindhu, SatChi, Kiran George, Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto, Ashwini Bhat- Shikha Gautam, the Panda sisters, Anupama Upadhyaya, Ashwin-Tanisha. Bad loss for GayaTree. Their consistency is definitely an issue.

Re: BWF Tournaments Jan/Feb 2025
It has been a disastrous tournament for us so far. Prannoy and Lakshya lost in the 1st round. Unfortunately our players are not able to utilize the home advantage. Thankfully a good win by Kiran George in the 2nd round. He beat Alex Lanier of France who had beaten the 4th seed Vitidsarn in the 1st round. Lanier is being touted as a big prospect so this was a good win. Sindhu also wins her 2nd round. Hopefully, SatChi would also win.

Only SatChi reach the semis. Sindhu and Kiran George lost though Sindhu's loss was a close one.

SatChi lose in the semis. Indian challenge over. No Indian has won the India Open since 2022.

Denmark's top player Mia Blitchfeldt leaves India Open in the middle because of Delhi's smog and unclean ambience, calling the conditions "unhealthy and unacceptable."

And Eric posts this as he leaves India after serving as the 26th US Ambassador to India. I suppose he has to say it. I remember reading how many diplomats avoid an India posting due to pollution.

It was the Danish envoy i was thinking of as a most recent example of diplomats highlighting the poor hygiene issues. It’s true. We have to accept it. Unless we join the efforts to improve by doing our civic duties well, government cannot do it alone.

The aftermath and the Envoy’s comments of satisfaction:

You know what’s appalling? The gutka ads by celebrities that popped as this video played. What an irony! The gutka wrappers and spit probably top the cause of this menace in the first place.
P.S. Mods—Please move this discussion to general chit chat. I posted here because of Mia’s comments.

But Eric Garcetti wanted to go to India... Badly. Waited for a long time to get confirmed too.
Yeah, need to move these posts somewhere else.

Re: BWF Tournaments Jan/Feb 2025
Even with terrible performances, Lakshya Sen has returned back to top-10 after few years. So, now we have top-10 players in 3 disciplines and surprisingly 2 of them are in doubles category. PV sindhu (#12) is also close to being top-10 and might do it in next few months.

^^^ I really do not understand this BWF ranking system. How has Lakshya climbed up to top 10 when he is losing in first round everywhere ?

Re: BWF Tournaments Jan/Feb 2025
Men's Singles is filled with very inconsistent players. Only few players are very consistent who are all ranked above lakshya. The gap between #9 and #10 is almost 14k points which is very rare. And lakshya had his fair share of good tournaments compared to other inconsistent players. Hence, the result.

Relatively good performance by the Indians in the 300 level Thailand masters event. 2 men in QF, 1 woman in QF, and 1 men's doubles pair (that isn't Satwik/Chirag) in QF.
Good luck to them to advance further....

Well none of the 4 advanced from the QF. At least 3 of them had relatively close matches while Srikanth lost in straight sets.
