Re: Asian champions trophy
3-0 is a decent result, but should have been better. Too many times we messed up with the final pass or mis trapped near their D. China offered very little but still managed to win 2-3 PCs due to the clumsiness of our sloths -Jarmanpreet & Amit.
We lacked intensity and I got the impression that our players were taking things too easily. Harmanpreet looks overweight and wants to hold on to the ball needlessly. Of the new players, Uttam and Mohd Raheel were fairly good. Gurjot created one chance but was otherwise error prone. Araijeet didn't do much. Our PCs were poor. One of those days where Harmanpreet's long drag is negated by the 1st runner.
Let's hope we pick up the tempo and put in a better performance.

Re: Asian champions trophy
A 5-1 hammering of Japan today! Sukhjeet scored a couple of goals. We were up 3-0 early on (2-0 before 2 minutes had elapsed, with successive goals from Sukhjeet and Abhishek, and Sanjay scoring early in the second quarter). Japan fought back to make it 3-1 in the 41st minute, but we ran away with it thereafter. Uttam and Sukhjeet scored in the final six minutes to put the game well out of Japan's reach.
Korea and Pakistan drew 2-2 in another match today. India plays Malaysia next, on Wednesday.

Re: Asian champions trophy
Intensity was much better today and this was reflected in the score.
Our moves are breaking down with an error/mistrap in the final third of the pitch. Gurjot and Araijeet lost the ball too many times. However, it's early days for both so we can hope they will show better form in the coming matches. Mohamed Raheel and Uttam Singh both looked good today.

Exactly. The person who impresses me most is Uttam singh.......Mohamed Raheel and Uttam Singh both looked good today.

Re: Asian champions trophy
Good to see India looking like the dominant team in this tournament so far. Hopefully, they can carry it all the way to a trophy.

Re: Asian champions trophy
Pakistan is really down in he dumps in everything. Sporting and non sporting. They are performing badly here which just is another nail in the coffin of their collective misery. Or course no one but themselves are responsible.
They lost in politics, lost in cricket, lost in the Olympics (some cheer with the Gold in Jav), lost in hockey.
Nothing to live for. When I watch their Youtubers interview people on the street in Lahore, you can sense their despair.

Re: Asian champions trophy
Yet, when all else seems lost, Pakistan has won big (politically) in Bangladesh. (Even if they lost to them in cricket!)

Re: Asian champions trophy
It looks like a sweep for India to win Gold. Unless they lay an egg getting overconfident.
6 teams is far too few. I would like more teams, even if they are bad ones. They get playing time against the big boys and like AFG in cricket, they may become good. The bad ones don't get into the playoffs or the next round.

Re: Asian champions trophy
Asian men's hockey has hit rock bottom. Pakistan has imploded. Korea has seen better days. Malaysia is underperforming. China is unable to replicate its success in women's hockey. Japan is inconsistent. So India unless they become complacent should win this. The other teams like Bangladesh and Oman don't count.
Re: Asian champions trophy
8-1 thrashing of Malaysia. We looked very good. Much quicker passing and tackled way better than usual. Malaysia gave us too much space in midfield.
Very impressed with Jugraj today. He was a stand by for the Olympics, but he should now be a first choice. Sanjay got injured and so Amir Ali played in defence and he looked ok. So, bith Amit and Jarmanpreet should be dropped.
Of the other new players, Uttam, Araijeet and Mohamed Raheel were very good, but Gurjot less so. I have been critical of Raj Kumar Pal, but today he was impressive and scored a hat trick.
