To be fair to Swami Vivekananda he made a famous comment that playing football is important to develop physical fitness and it is said the Mohun Bagan team that won the IFA Shield in 1911 was inspired by him. He used to practice wrestling in his childhood at the Shimla Bayam Samiti in North Calcutta. In fact if any of you ever watch the Bengali movie Golandaaz a biopic made on one of my ancestors who was India's first footballer there is a brief reference to Narendranath Dutta doing wrestling.jayakris wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 1:54 pm ^^^ We should call that silly monstrosity, ugly colors and all, simply "Motera Stadium". Even something interesting like "Sabarmati Nadi Stadium".
Lords is Lords. Oval is Oval. The Rose Bowl is the Rose Bowl. Cam Nou is Camp Nou. MCG is just MCG.
Salt Lake should just be Salt Lake. But that also got renamed after somebody who I am not sure ever played football for his anandam. He used his "cerebral discretion" for his enjoyment. We as a country should show some "vivek" too, in naming sports stadiums.
