Pin a post

Post by gunsnroses »

Hi,

Can we have this functionality where we can a pin/unpin a post which we feel useful for that thread ?
Something like WhatsApp/Instagram/Twitter have it now where a certain chat/post/tweet will be the first one to be visible on a profile.

Thanks

Probably the moderator only. The user can ask the moderator and if he thinks it is relevant then he can pin it.

TripAdvisor pins the first post in a thread. You see this first post in the second page of the thread too, etc. We can have a user can pin a webpage but moderators can overrule that and unpin it. The pinned post should have some justification for why it is pinned. For example, if we want to understand the rest of the posts, is the pinned post essential?

Yeah something like that. Some posts are useful and should be on the top. I don't want to go back and search for it again and again. Hope it can be done. Who maintains this site ? Can probably ask him if it's possible.

The site administrator who owns and maintains the site is Mr. Dhruv Kak, a busy COO of a good sized company in Canada. He has singled-handedly done it for 21 years now. Maintaining the most comprehensive information archive on Indian sports going back that far, with every post still available. He has kept it free for everybody interested in Indian sports, without even resorting to advertisement revenue or anything, and never looking for any exposure to himself either. The most self-less contributor to Indian sports, and perhaps the most selfless site owner on the whole of internet! :notworthy: He has not even posted anything here, other than the rare site-maintenance or update items, for well over 15 years. He has no time for that, but he somehow finds time away from his busy work life to keep the site going with nary a downtime (a couple of days of down time recently made us panic, because we had never seen it!)

The two moderators are Sameer and I...

As for the matter of pinning posts, I have never tried to pin anything. At least I don't remember doing that. I took a quick look at moderator tools and did not find a way to do that. But there are pinned threads here, so there are some utilities for pinning available; perhaps only Dhruv can do it. Anyway, I will check again and see if it is there for us moderators. Or maybe Sameer knows how to do it. I will check.
