Urhobo's father represented Nigeria. He was a coach here and trainer. The young Urhobo was on a tennis court from way early and won the high school tournaments at grade 8, etc. in Florida, I think.

The girl who beat Shrivalli, Urhobo went on to win the title at W75 in Zephyrhills. She is a real talent at 17.

Shrivalli will feel less bad about her loss now. She has now finished here 3 weeks US tour, she is in entry list of W50 in Goyang, Korea starting from May 20- 4 out from main draw, may have to go thru qualies again. Vaidehi also there lower down in qualies entry list.

Shrivalli's results from the two events in Korea earlier this month are at the Korea ITF W35s thread, as Vaidehi was also there with her.

Shrivalli is at a career high #406 and the 8th seed at the ITF W35 in Taipei, Taiwan (Hard) this week.

[R1] (8) Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty (IND,406) vs Rina Saigo (JPN,492), Wednesday

This is not an easy match though. Rina just won the M15 in Tokyo where she was the 3rd seed, and is in good form. She is also in the doubles draw, playing with Monique Barry (NZL) and seeded 4th. They play Mayuka Aikawa and Rinon Okuwaki of Japan in the R1.

Just this evening, I was thinking to myself this is the first time our top-4 singles players moved past their respective first round matches, playing in 4 different countries. But here we have Shrivalli retiring after losing the first set 6-0 against Liz Cabrera. Hope it’s some stomach bug and not any serious injury :damn:

^^^ My thoughts exactly... I did not even get to watch ITF's live stream and the match was over by the time I checked that :(

I am told she slipped on the wet floor at the laundromat and got a thumbnail injury yesterday. Tried to play but it is painful, though not a serious injury. Decided not to make it worse but to let it heal. Should heal by next week but will have to skip 2 weeks now. How unfortunate :(

But I am glad it is nothing serious...

Well, she will most possibly read a NCH of 402 at the end of the week or something close to it. The 22 year olds Sahaja and Shrivalli are the new hopes for now. And, then maybe the 19 year old Vaishnavi?

Really unfortunate way of getting injured. I thought she had a real chance going deep in these 2-3 weeks and get to top 400 and better. Anyway, hope she comes back stronger after 2-3 weeks.

A correction. It was a toenail. Her feet hit a door jamb or something after slipping. Lots of blood and stuff and it was hurting, but nothing serious.

Good of her to show up for doubles after all that. Unfortunate timing as I believe she has the talent to be top-300. One day this year
