Re: Roland Garros Claycourt Run-Up Tournaments 2024
Olivetti serve got broken after they were a break up and he also served a double fault at 5-3 in tie break. But, Yuki had a fantastic lob at 5-6 on opponent serve to win it for them.

Would a kind mod kindly move this to an Olympic Thread so that we can still have it there when we discuss the Olympics or want to look up things? Thanks.

Re: Roland Garros Claycourt Run-Up Tournaments 2024
Shall we make this "Roland Garros and Claycourt Run-Up Tournaments 2024" and continue? Can continue this through Geneva ATP (Sumit in singles) and Lyon ATP (Yuki in doubles) and then for the French Open too (Sumit in singles. Bopa/Ebden and Yuki/Olivetti in doubles)
Let me do that for now. If you all feel that there should be separate threads, we can split posts away.
French Open alternates: Sumit and Sebastian Ofner have signed in for FO and are ALT #4 for doubles. Balaji and Miguel Reyes-Varela are #9, Anirudh and Arjun are #17, and Rithvik and Niki are #18. There is some chance for the that to fall to Sumit/Ofner. Not much chance for the others. Of course, Sumit is in the main draw for singles. Bopa/Ebden and Yuki/Olivetti are in the doules main draw too.

Sumit against world #18 Karen Khachanov in first round at French open. Khachanov was quarter finalist last year. So, quite tough draw.

Wow, that is tough draw for Sumit! He has a chance but it would have been nice if he didn't have to play a seed in the first round.

Just when we thought he was totally out at 26 06 35 and facing serve, he comes up with a break to at least extend things a bit. 6-5 in the third and facing serve.

Re: Roland Garros and Claycourt Run-Up Tournaments 2024
Sumit was up a minibreak in the tiebreaker at 5-3, but an ace missed by a centimeter
... He lost the minibreak there and it was over on his serve at 5-6... So a 26 06 67(5) loss.
Khachanov was playing really (I mean, REALLY) well today. So damn powerful with his shots. Sumit himself hit some screamers at a higher velocity than I have seen from him in the past, but not to much avail till too late in the match.
But it is a good sign that he was able to play a very good set in the end. We need him to go to the final next week at the Heilbronn challenger 100, to make sure of an Olympics entry. He is expected to be the second seed there, but will need to beat some 4 players in the 100-250 range to do that. He can, on current form, and he is not physically hampered or tired now. Go Sumit!

Not unexpected loss. I was hoping that he would win a set and looks like he came really close in the 3rd set. In any case, gives him more time to rest, recover, and heal if necessary.
